USATF Coaching Education offers special programs, clinics, and symposiums that vary each year. Past offerings and program descriptions are outlined below, with most qualifying as Level 1 recertification options.
Based on the methodology of Dr. Joe Vigil, this 12-hour course is an opportunity to learn the theory and skills that have produced collegiate and world cross country medalists. The course features technical sessions, laboratory activities, cross country specialty drills, periodization training for the cross country season, team building strategies, and long term athlete development for the endurance runner. The course is open to all USATF members (minimum 18 years of age), regardless of training or certification.
High school, club, college, and professional coaches across all event disciplines who have had success coaching athletes at the state, national, or international level are invited to this prestigious three-day camp at a designated High-Performance Training Center. Serious-minded coaches seeking advanced information, strategies, and tactics with an eye towards elevating their coaching knowledge and developing national and international, medal-winning, capable athletes are invited to apply. The camp provides immersion in an intensive science and technical based study with hands-on application in a learn-by-doing format. Participants learn from USATF Master Coach educators along with USATF’s resident coaching staff.
Coaches of all experience levels can become a skill coach in the major events of track & field: sprints, hurdles, jumps, throws, middle- and long-distance running. Designed as an extension of the USATF professional pathway of certification courses, participants will learn coaching techniques, drill progressions, and coaching cues with error correction and video analysis. Participants will shadow USATF Master Coaches in a day of practicum on the field, teaching and demonstrating. Clinics are available to all who are interested, regardless of training or certification. A coach must accompany all athletes (ages 14-19) attending. A current USATF membership is not required. Click here to learn more about Learn By Doing Clinics.
