As the national governing body for track and field, para track and field, long distance running, and race walking, USA Track and Field (“USATF”) is committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable environment for everyone. To maintain this environment, USATF expects all individuals attending a USATF event as a member of the audience (“Spectators”), to abide by this Code of Conduct. USATF encourages all Spectators to familiarize themselves with this Code of Conduct prior to arriving at a USATF event.
USATF has a zero-tolerance policy with respect to abuse, harassment, and discrimination both on and off the track. Verbal, physical, sexual, and emotional abuse or harassment towards any athletes, coaches, team representatives, officials, volunteers, other spectators, event/venue staff, or members of the USATF team is strictly prohibited and may result in a Spectator being removed from the event, prohibited from attending future USATF events, and/or being arrested by law enforcement.
Spectators are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct and venue rules. The following behaviors are prohibited at USATF events:
USATF and venue staff reserve the right to take action if a Spectator is violating this Code of Conduct, and Spectators are encouraged to report any inappropriate behavior to the nearest USATF or event staff member. Such action may include denying a Spectator admission to the event, confiscating prohibited items, or removing the Spectator without refund, or when warranted, prohibition from attending future USATF events or being arrested by law enforcement.
Many USATF events hosted, sponsored, or operated by USATF are held in a venue that is not owned or operated by USATF and/or organized by someone other than USATF. Spectators must also respect and follow all rules of the venue or organizer while attending an event.
Sometimes, the rules of the venue or organizer will conflict with this Code of Conduct. In these instances, USATF and event staff will enforce the stricter rule on the matter.

To help ensure a safe, secure, and positive experience for all young athletes, USA Track & Field has implemented a reunification process for athletes aged 10 and under at all USA Track & Field Youth National Championships.
The information below outlines the steps parents, guardians, and coaches should take to prepare for the reunification process and help ensure a smooth and efficient pickup experience.
1. Pick up a reunification wristband at packet pickup The adult picking up the packet (typically a coach or parent/guardian) will receive a reunification wristband for the associated athlete(s) age 10 and under. The wristband will match the athlete’s bib number(s) and is required for pickup from the reunification area. A form must be completed at packet pickup to receive a wristband and document authorized pickup information.
Additional or replacement reunification wristbands
Additional reunification wristbands may be requested at packet pickup for another parent, guardian, or coach. The individual requesting a wristband must provide a valid photo ID and be listed as an authorized contact in the athlete’s USATF Connect Profile. Coaches must be listed on the club’s Connect Profile. Lost reunification wristbands may be replaced at packet pickup with a valid photo ID.
2. Proceed to the reunification area after the race
After an athlete completes their event, authorized staff will direct them to the reunification area. Athletes will have access to water, Gatorade, and a place to rest while waiting for pickup. Only individuals wearing a matching reunification wristband will be permitted to check out an athlete. Please wear your reunification wristband and pick up your athlete promptly after their event.
For questions or additional information regarding reunification, email usatfsafesport@usatf.org.
To ensure a safe environment for all athletes, the Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP) limit one-on-one interactions between adults and minors and set standards for training and competition settings. All event staff, volunteers, coaches, and officials must refrain from misconduct, including sexual misconduct, physical or emotional misconduct, bullying, harassment, and hazing. Anyone who witnesses or suspects misconduct is required to report it immediately in accordance with Safe Sport policies.
**Remember: All Adult Participants are required to report allegations of sexual misconduct or child abuse immediately to local law enforcement and/or CPS as well as the U.S. Center for SafeSport.
