Host Hotel: Room blocks for the Championships have been secured at 3 hotels near the course. Details are below, but they are all high-quality hotels even though their pricing varies considerably. One, the Mission Bay Resort (formerly the Hilton San Diego Resort & Spa), is directly adjacent to the course and will be the site of Packet Pick-up and the USATF National Team Sign-up if necessary. The other two hotels, the Hyatt Mission Bay and Days Inn by Wyndham, are just 3.4 and 4.2 miles away from the course, respectively. All three hotels will honor their room rates for three days before and after the dates of the room block (Thursday-Saturday) if you want to extend your visit before or after the race. The housing block and pricing will be held until December 16, 2021, at which time the block and the event rate will be released and rooms will be available on a space-available basis only. HYATT REGENCY MISSION BAY, 1441 Quivera Rd., San Diego, CA 92109, 619-224-1234 / 888-591-1234 The Hyatt is 3.4 miles away from the course. Rooms are $179 plus tax per night for a single or double. Additional adults (18 & over) up to a maximum of 4 total people in a room are $20 per person per night. Parking is available for the discounted rate of $25 per night. Each guest receives a complimentary breakfast each day. Each room will receive 2 free bottles of water per day. The housing block and pricing will be held until December 23, 2021, at which time the block will be released and rooms will be available on a space-available basis only. Start Time: Each competitor is responsible for knowing the starting time of their race. All competitors are responsible for being at the starting line no later than 15 minutes prior to their start with their competition bib number. Master runners must also wear the age/gender “back” number properly affixed.
Masters Team Scoring: Master Teams for all USATF Cross Country Championships shall be scored by place as follows: Each division shall be scored separately by places of the top 3 or 5 team finishers respective of the division (see chart below).
USATF Rules indicate that when scoring by place: The team score shall be the total of the finishing positions of the scoring members. The team with the lowest total points is the team winner. Runners of incomplete teams, team entries not declared eligible for team scoring, and unattached or individual competitors will be eliminated from team scoring. Non-scoring declared members of complete teams shall retain their finishing positions and thereby displace other runners. When separate competitions are conducted simultaneously, each shall be scored independently. Runners on teams not eligible for a given competition will be eliminated from team scoring in that competition. If a team fails to finish with a complete scoring team, the team members finishing shall be counted as individuals in the race results and shall be eligible to receive individual awards. Team scoring tie breaker (Rule 7.9.b) – Ties between two or more teams shall be resolved in favor of the team whose last scoring member finishes closer to first place.
Mission Bay Park San Diego, CA The 2022 USATF Cross Country Championships will be contested on January 8, 2022, at Mission Bay Park in San Diego, CA. This course was also used for the 2008, 2011 and 2020 USATF Cross Country Championships. The championships consist of six separate races: Masters Women 6 km, Masters Men 8 km, U20 (Junior) Women 6k m, U20 (Junior) Men 8 km, Open Women 10 km and Open Men 10 km as well as a 4 km Community Run, open to all ages.
