USATF Youth Virtual Summer Challenge

The USATF Youth Virtual Summer Challenge wrapped up on July 31st and was a great success with 715 athletes ages 7-18 participating.

On June 23, USATF launched the virtual challenge, in partnership with AthleticNET, a unique track and field adaptation during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic to encourage youth athletes to remain active while still being able to feed their appetite for real competition.

Altogether the 715 participants from 110 clubs competed in more than 2,000 events between July 10 - July 31, 2020. Events contested for boys and girls in each age group included:
  • Track: 100, 200, 400, 800, Mile, 2 Mile, 1 Mile Race Walk
  • Field: Standing Long Jump, Shot Put, Mini/Aero Javelin, Discus, Long Jump, Triple Jump

Each entrant will receive a special competitor’s medal. USATF members will also each receive a personalized virtual bib.

Though the Virtual Challenge has concluded, youth athletes can still stay active with RunJumpThrow (RJT), a program for youth created by USA Track and Field and The Hershey Company. This condensed program consists of five stations that can be easily adapted to your home or backyard. Using items found around the house, kids can practice Warming Up, Jumping, Speed & Agility, Throwing and Strength while they imagine themselves as a future Olympian.
