Team Processing Information

Please bring passports to National Team Processing!*
All athletes are required to complete Team Processing in order to be eligible for selection to a 2023 USATF National Team. Athletes who fail to complete Team Processing during the timeframes listed below will forfeit their rank for selection to a 2023 National Team.

2023 National Team Competitions

The 2023 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships will serve as the Selection event for the following teams*:

• 2023 NACAC U23 Championships
  • July 21 – 23 in San Jose, Costa Rica
• 2023 Thorpe Cup
  • August 12 – 13 in Marburg, Germany
• 2023 World Athletics Championships
  • August 19 – 27 in Budapest, Hungary
  • *With the exception of the Marathon and 35km Race Walk, which will be selected via separate Selection Events.
  • Note: Marathon and 35km Race Walk athletes will be required to complete Team Processing at the 2023 USATF Outdoor Championships. USATF will work directly with these athletes to coordinate their travel to Eugene to participate in Team Processing.
• 2023 World Athletics Road Running Championships
  • September 30 – October 1 in Riga, Latvia
  • (Assessing interest only for 5km and Mile events; processing virtually at a later date)
• 2023 Pan Am Games
  • October 22, 29 – November 4 in Santiago, Chile
  • (Assessing interest only; processing virtually at a later date)

Additionally, the 2023 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships will serve as the selection event for the following team:

• 2023 Pan Am U20 Championships
  • August 4 – 6 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico

Athletes should bring the following to Team Processing:

• Cell Phone
• Valid U.S. passport (or clear color copy)
• Necessary information to complete forms (contact information for agents, coaches, etc.)

Passport Requirement

Athletes must have and present at Team Processing a current passport good for at least six (6) months after the return date from the National Team event. 
 
The State Department is warning that passport processing is currently estimated to be upward of 10 to 13 weeks. Individuals who do not have a passport or who need to renew, are encouraged to begin the process NOW. Passport services are typically offered at some post offices, libraries, and government buildings. Team Processing Schedule

Athletes will be directed by a 2023 National Team staff member to the Team Processing area located in Playwrights Hall of The Graduate located at 66 E. 6^th Avenue, Eugene, OR 97401.
 
Athletes must report to the Team Processing area immediately after the final of their event.

Reminder: Without exception, those not completing Team Processing will not be eligible for selection to a 2023 USATF National Team.
 
In the interest of completing the process as efficiently as possible, athletes should report immediately following the final of their event. The entire process is approximately 2.0 hours.
 
NOTE: For planning purposes, athletes selected for the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships or 2023 World Athletics Championships teams should expect to receive and leave Eugene with their Team kit.

Athlete Travel to National Team Competitions

Athletes MUST bring passports to Team Processing.

USATF National Office is primarily responsible for athlete travel for all National Teams. At Team Processing, USATF will book the athlete's ticket and USATF will pay for a roundtrip ticket from the athlete's home city to the competition city and back to the athlete's home city. 

Personal Coaches

The local organizing committees (LOC) for these 2023 competitions organizers may make available to Team USATF a limited number of credentials for personal coaches. Information including cost of the credential and access will be provided during Team Processing. Accordingly, personal coaches interested in receiving these credentials should attend Team Processing with their athlete. In order for USATF to apply to the LOC on behalf of a personal coach for credentialing, the personal coach MUST (a) be the coach of record for an athlete selected to a USATF National team and (b) be a member of the USATF Coaches Registry. To be a member of the Coaches Registry, an individual must:

1. Be a current adult USATF member.
2. Pass the USATF background screen.
3. Successfully complete the U.S. Center for SafeSport Training course.
4. Accept and adhere to the SafeSport Handbook.
5. List current coaching affiliation on membership profile.
6. Fulfill Education Standard and submit verification application through USATF Connect.
