Personal

Jacob ‘Jake’ Riley, son of Ralph Riley and Kathi Peacock, married Kendra Welling in 2015. In 2016, Riley finished 15th at the Olympic Trials, then took three years off racing while battling Achilles issues, and then in 2018 had surgery for Haglund's syndrome. He returned to racing in 2019 finishing as the top American at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Riley finished second to qualify for his first U.S. Olympic team, running a personal best 2:10.02 in Atlanta. Riley graduated from Stanford in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in biomechanical engineering and is now working toward a master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Colorado, Boulder. His favorite inspirational quote is from fellow American Marathon Olympian Des Linden - "Keep showing up." Riley says, "supposedly on my mother's side I'm descended from Scottish pirates, so that's fun." His favorite movie is Baby Driver and his favorite vacation spot is the San Juan Islands, Washington.
