Nomination Forms and Criteria

Nominations shall be accepted from anyone in the track & field community. They will be solicited from USA Track & Field (USATF) Associations, committees, social media followers, and athletes through regular communications from USATF.

The nomination forms — linked below — shall be distributed via the USATF website and submitted directly via the Wufoo form.

  • Modern Athlete Nomination Form
  • Veteran Athlete Nomination Form
  • Coach/Contributor Nomination Form

All information for the nominee must fit into the form and include as complete information as possible.

Please do two things before submitting a nomination:

  1. Make sure you are aware of the criteria for consideration, that your nominee meets that criteria, and that your nominee has not already been nominated. Nominations which do not meet the objective criteria will be ruled out of consideration by the Screening Committee.
  2. Make sure you fill out the nomination form as completely as possible. This may take some effort and research on your part.

Hall of Fame Nomination Criteria

Before nominating an athlete, coach, or contributor, check the list of current members to see if the person has already been initiated. You may submit as many nominations as you like. It is not necessary to resubmit a nomination that was already counted in a previous year.

  5. World or American leader in event(s) for three or more years;
  6. Winner of four or more U.S. national open championships; and/or
  7. Other outstanding accomplishments at a national open or international open level.

To be nominated, an athlete must have completed open competition at least three years prior to consideration, except when an athlete has reached forty years of age. He or she may continue in open competition as a masters athlete.

Coach

Criteria for coaches being placed in nomination shall be:

  1. Having compiled an outstanding record of coaching champions at the level coached (e.g. national open, national collegiate, state high school, etc.); and
  2. Having compiled an extraordinary winning record or have achieved other outstanding accomplishments; and
  3. Having coached for at least twenty (20) years.

To be nominated, a coach must have been retired for at least one year from active full-time coaching, except where s/he has coached for thirty-five (35) years or more.
