To assist our top athletes with their everyday living expenses, USATF created a three-tier program of direct athlete support that includes:
The objective is to invest resources in the athletes based on two criteria: 1. Olympic medal potential and 2. Financial need. The stipend amount is based on tier status, view chart below: *Athlete stipends are processed by the USOC once athletes have completed the necessary paperwork.
Qualified athletes are eligible for the following amount (view chart below) to apply towards preventive care expenses incurred in 2019, including massage therapy, chiropractic services, physical therapy, acupuncture, and medical expenses not covered by other health insurance. Other qualified expenses under the 2019 program include dental expenses and health club membership fees. This stipend will continue to be managed as a healthcare savings account with receipts required for reimbursement. Receipts MUST be submitted via Teamworks app. Tier 1-3 athletes can opt-in for a NormaTec unit for $1000 of medical stipend, if did not opt-in during a prior year.
The objective of this program is to support those coaches who are producing medal-contending athletes. The criteria for this program coincides with our direct athlete support program criteria-in that a coach must have an athlete that falls under Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3, and TPP to qualify for stipend. The athlete must complete a form to designate their coach of record in order for USATF to process the payment. The designated coach must have met all the requirements of USATF Registered Coaches Program to be eligible for this stipend.
