Mantz's American record earns him USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Bettering the American record* in the men's marathon, Conner Mantz (Provo, UT/USATF Utah) earned recognition as the 36th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2025. It is his second AOW award in 2025.

Mantz finished fourth in the Chicago Marathon in 2:04:43 and shattered the ratified American record of 2:05:38 that was set 23 years ago in London by Khalid Khannouchi. His time also bettered the all-conditions American record of 2:04:58 that was set by Ryan Hall at Boston in 2011.

The 28-year-old BYU grad set an AR in the half marathon with his 59:17 at Houston in January and won the USATF 20K title at New Haven in September. Eighth at the Olympic Games in Paris last summer, Mantz also placed fourth in the Boston Marathon in April.

Other top performances from last week:

  • Brittany Brown won the 100 in 10.99 and 200 in a lifetime best of 21.89 at the Athlos NYC meet.

  • Tara Davis-Woodhall tied her own world-leading mark in the women's long jump at the Athlos NYC meet, spanning 7.13/23-4.75.

  • Natosha Rogers was the top American woman at the Chicago Marathon, placing sixth in 2:23:38 to clip 13 seconds off her lifetime best.

  • Emily Sisson won the Boston 10K for Women in a race record of 31:05.
