INDIANAPOLIS -- Bettering the women's American indoor record* for 1500 meters, Heather MacLean (Cambridge, MA/USATF New England) earned recognition as the eighth USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2025.
Running at the BU Last Chance Meet at Boston University, MacLean passed 1500 meters in 3:59.60 en route to a 4:17.01 winning mile time. That 1500 mark bettered the ratified American indoor record of 3:59.98 set by Regina Jacobs in 2003.
An Olympian at Tokyo in 2021 in the 1500, MacLean moved to No. 4 on the all-time world indoor performer list for the mile with her 4:17.01 and narrowly missed the American indoor record of 4:16.41 that was set by Elle St. Pierre last year. She clocked the third-fastest time ever by an American, behind a pair of St. Pierre performances, and the fifth-fastest world all-time performance.
