INDIANAPOLIS -- Setting a world indoor best and bettering the American indoor record* in the men's 600, Josh Hoey (Downington, PA/USATF Mid-Atlantic) earned recognition as the 43rd USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2025, his second AOW award of the year.
Hoey, who set American indoor records in the 800 and 1000 earlier this year and won USATF and World Indoor golds in the 800, sped to a 1:12.84 at the Colyear-Danville Invitational in Boston to knock almost a second off the world best and ratified American record of 1:13.77 that was set by Donavan Brazier in 2019.
Paced by his brother Jonah through the first 200 in 23.74, Hoey went through the 400 mark in 47.63 before a 25.21 final lap on Boston University's oval put him across the line in the second-fastest time ever. Only Johnny Gray's world outdoor best of 1:12.81 at Santa Monica in 1986 is faster on the all-time list. Other top performances from last week:
Parker Wolfe was the men's 10K champion at the USATF Cross Country Championships in Portland with a 29:16.4 to win by eight seconds.
