Hitchings' 10K masters record earns her USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Breaking a masters women's road race record that has stood for 10 years, Jenny Hitchings (Sacramento, CA/USATF Pacific) earned recognition as the 39th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2025.

The 62-year-old Hitchings clocked a stellar 39:21 for 10K at the Clarksburg Country Run to win the women's 60-64 division and clip three seconds off the ratified American 60-64 record that was set in 2015 by Christine Kennedy. Hitchings placed fifth overall with that time and won her age division by more than 13 minutes.

Pending ratification by the USATF Records Committee, Hitchings' 10K mark will give her national 60-64 records at nine different distances from 5K to the marathon.

Other top performances from last week:

  • Susannah Scaroni won the women's wheelchair division at the NYC Marathon by more than 5 minutes in 1:42:10. She completed her sweep of U.S. stops in the Abbott World Marathon Majors for 2025 after winning Boston and Chicago earlier this year.

  • Vidal Macchia won the USATF Youth 5K Championships boys race in 16:35 at the Abbott Dash to the Finish Line in New York City.

  • Charlize-Trinity McKenzie was the girls’ winner at the USATF Youth 5K Championships in New York City in 17:55.

  • Joel Reichow was the top American men's finisher in the NYC Marathon, placing sixth in a lifetime best of 2:09:56.

  • Fiona O'Keeffe was the top American women's finisher in the NYC Marathon, placing fourth in a season best 2:22:49.

Now in its 24th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week when there are high-level competitions and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
