Holloway's world-leading 60H win earns him USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS — Winning the men's 60m hurdles at the New Balance Grand Prix in a world-leading time, Grant Holloway (Gainesville, Florida/USATF Florida) earned recognition as the fourth USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2023.

Holloway, the world indoor record holder and reigning World Indoor champion, opened his season at Boston with a pair of world-leading efforts, clocking 7.39 in the heats and then handily winning the final in 7.38. His time in the final has only ever been matched or beaten by nine other American men and chopped more than a tenth of a second off the previous world's best mark in 2023.

Other top performances from last week:

  • Heather MacLean ran a world-leading 4:23.42 to win the women's mile at the New Balance GP, and also hit a WL in the 1,500m en route with a 4:06.07.
  • Rhode Island's Sophia Gorriaran ran the third-fastest 500m ever by a high school woman, clocking 1:10.42 at Boston University's Scarlet & White Invitational.
  • Bridget Williams won the women's pole vault at the New Balance GP, clearing 4.77m/15-7.75 to move to No. 6 on the all-time U.S. indoor performer list.

Now in its 22nd year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week when there are high-level competitions and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.

2023 Winners: January 17, Emily Sisson; January 24, Ednah Kurgat; January 31, Woody Kincaid; February 7, Grant Holloway.
