Atlanta Track Club Crowned Overall and Women’s Champions, Greater Philadelphia TC Wins Men’s Title on Final Day at 2023 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships

Greensboro, NC — The final day of competition at the 2023 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships was nothing short of exciting as the Atlanta Track Club was crowned winner of the women’s and combined team trophies and the Greater Philadelphia TC won the men’s trophy.

Jeannie Rice (Unattached) continued her streak of dominance at the 2023 USATF Masters Outdoor Championships with yet another 75-59 world record - her third of the meet. Rice clocked a blistering 6:14.88 in the 1500m to beat the field by nearly a minute. Her time obliterated the existing American record of 6:41.88 and shaved six seconds off of the existing world record.

Sue McDonald (Pursuit of Excellence Track Club) joined Sunday’s world record club with a 300m hurdles clocking of 48.89 in the 60-64 division. Her time was a whopping 15 seconds faster than the field and cut nearly a second off of the existing world record. Her hurdles record tied her with Rice for total number of world records at the meet.

Following suit with a world record in the 90-94 division was Dot Sowerby (High Point Athletic Club). Her 11:30.62 shaved more than a minute off of the previous world record of 12:34.67, set by Canada’s Lenore Montgomery in 2020.

With two American records to her name at this weekend’s Championship alone, Kay Glynn (Unattached) had her sights set high going into the 200m hurdles. She clocked a 37.61 to shave 3.5 seconds off of the existing American record of 41.08. Roger Vergin (Unattached) joined Glynn in 200m hurdles glory, bettering the American record in the men’s 85-89 division with a 49.34.

Russell Jacquet-Acea (Unattached) took down the 70-74 American record with an impeccable time in the men’s 300m hurdles. His 49.86 made him the first American in the age division to run a sub-50 time in the event.

Kicking off an afternoon of 200m sprints, Emmanuelle McGowan (Maximum Quotient Track Club) broke the American record in the women’s 55-59 division. Her 27.03 cut almost half a second off of the American record and was her first individual world record of the meet, adding to her 4x200m record from day three.

A handful of American records highlighted the 4x400m relays to cap off the day. Joy’s Jackrabbits Track Club’s 35-39 quartet of Christina Trucks, Adjua Gibb-Gabriel, Magdalene Thorne, and Christine Hufenbecher bettered the American record with their 4:10.86 run, cutting nearly seven seconds off of the existing record.

The Greater Philadelphia TC’s women’s 60-64 team of Lorraine Jasper, Cheryl Bellaire, Betsy Stewart, and Coreen Steinbach took down their age division American record with a 5:55.13. Their time just barely slashed the American record of 5:55.31. Another record fell in the women’s 75-79 division. The TNT International Racing Club (Nancy Berger, Angela Staab, Mary Trotto, and Cora Hill) ran to a 10:52.60, breaking the American record of 11:39.23 by nearly a full minute.

A pair of records toppled in the men’s and women’s 65-69 divisions of the 4x400m relays. A non-club team of Susan Lloyd, Patsy Orosz, Tomomi Seki, and Leandra Funk ran a speedy 5:37.69 to blow away the previous American record of 6:01.47. The Greater Philadelphia TC’s Timothy Conheady, Gary Haga, Robert Riss, and Robert Reynolds ran a 4:53.41, which shattered the existing American record of 5:07.10. So Cal Track Club’s team came in second in 5:04.52 to dip below the previous record.
