USATF mourns loss of Larry Seifert
Lawrence “Larry” Seifert, a longtime USATF official and stalwart of the national youth program died Jan. 14 in Parma, Ohio. He was 89.
Seifert, a high school track coach and official at every level of the sport, was involved with track and field for more than 50 years, and was the meet director for the Cleveland Knights of Columbus indoor meet that was a featured stop on the national circuit in the 1970s and 80s.
A former president of the USATF Lake Erie Association, Seifert assumed many roles in youth track and field, and was a founder and treasurer of the National Youth Track Coaches Association. He and his wife of 65 years, Nancy, were familiar faces at Junior Olympics and Youth championship meets.
Seifert was a Master Level official who had extensive experience as a referee and dealing with protests. Active at the local, national and international level, he was an official at the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta.
Services are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 23, at 10 am at St. Charles Borromeo church, with visitation on Friday from 4-7 pm at the Ripepi Funeral Home in Parma.
