Crouser, McLaughlin, Knighton world records ratified by World Athletics

MONACO – World Athletics announced that the world records set at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field in Eugene, Oregon by Ryan Crouser and Sydney McLaughlin, as well as the World U20 record by Erriyon Knighton, have been ratified.

Crouser’s men’s shot put world record performance of 23.37m/76-8.25 on June 18, 2021, improved upon the 28-year-old record set in 1990 by Randy Barnes (23.12m/75-10.25) by 25 centimeters. Crouser went on to successfully defend his Olympic title in Tokyo, smashing his own Olympic record with a throw of 23.30m/76-5.50, the second-best throw in history.

McLaughlin’s world record of 51.90 in the women’s 400m hurdles came on June 27, 2021, breaking 2016 Olympic gold medalist Dalilah Muhammad’s world record of 52.16 set at the World Championships in Doha on October 4, 2019. McLaughlin went on to win Olympic gold in Tokyo, breaking her own world record (pending ratification) with a time of 51.46.

Knighton broke the world U20 record in the men’s 200m at Trials with a time of 19.88 on June 26, 2021, breaking the mark of 19.93 set by Usain Bolt on April 11, 2004. Knighton went on to finish just off the podium at the Tokyo Olympics placing fourth in 19.93.
