Bor, Davis earn USATF Athlete of the Week honors - March 1-14

INDIANAPOLIS -- The busiest two weeks of the indoor season saw Emmanuel Bor and Tara Davis earn USATF Athlete of the Week awards for 2021 after chart-busting performances in the distances and jumps.
 
Enjoying the new Virginia Beach indoor facility on March 4, Bor (Colorado Springs, Colorado) narrowly missed the American indoor record in the men’s 5,000m at the FireFly Recovery meet, knocking almost five seconds off his lifetime best and clocking 13:05.60 to move to No. 2 on the all-time U.S. indoor performer list. Bor’s time was also the fastest in the world this year and put him 12th on the all-time world indoor performer list.
 
The World U18 champion in 2015 and a bronze medalist at the 2018 World U20 Championships, Texas junior Davis (Austin, Texas) soared into the history books with a collegiate record 6.93m/22-9 long jump that gave her the NCAA Indoor title in Fayetteville and put her sixth on the all-time U.S. indoor performer list. Davis also climbed atop the ‘21 world indoor list with her winning mark.
 
More top performances from the last two weeks:

  • Grant Fisher won the Sound Running men’s 5,000m in 13:02.53, a lifetime best that ranks him as the No. 13 all-time U.S. man outdoors.

  • Emily Sisson was the winner of the Sound Running women’s 5,000m, clocking 14:55.82 for a personal best that ranks her 13th on the all-time U.S. outdoor performer list.

  • Steffin McCarter of Texas long jumped 8.26m/27-1.25 at the Longhorn Invitational to equal the world’s leading outdoor mark of 2021.

  • Cole Hocker of Oregon won the men’s mile and 3,000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships, setting a meet record in the mile. His double gold effort helped the Ducks to the team title.

  • JuVaughn Harrison of LSU won the men’s long jump and high jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a world-leading 8.45m/27-8.75 in the LJ. he became the first man in history to high jump 2.30m and long jump 8.40m on a single day.

  • Abby Steiner of Kentucky tied the collegiate record in the women’s 200m with a 22.38 to win the NCAA Indoor Championships.

  • Trevor Bassitt of Ashland helped his men’s team to the NCAA Division II title by winning the 60m hurdles and 200m and finishing third in the 60m. He also anchored the winning 4x400m relay and ran the 400m leg on the school’s fifth-place distance medley relay.

  • Cheyenne Williamson of Saginaw Valley State won the women’s 60m hurdles, long jump and pentathlon at the NCAA Division II meet, scoring 30 of her team’s 35 points.

Now in its 20th year, USATF’s Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week when there are high-level competitions and features the athlete on USATF.org. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
