Weekend Recap - Emily Sisson, Ryan Crouser and The Track Meet

— Emily Sisson missed an American record in the women’s half marathon by one second Sunday at Valencia, Spain, clocking 67:26 for a four-second personal best that was just off the AR of 67:25 set in 2018 by Molly Huddle. Sisson was fifth in the elite women’s race on a day that saw four men go under the existing world record. Jordan Hasay ran 2:33:51 in the women’s marathon over the same course.

— Ryan Crouser picked up right where he left off at the end of his outdoor season with a massive 22.58m/74-1 indoor shot put at the K-State Winter Invitational in Manhattan, Kansas. Crouser’s throw was the third-best performance in history, behind only his 22.60m/74-1.75 to win the USATF Indoor title earlier this year and the 22.66m/74-4.25 world record by Randy Barnes in 1989.

— Qualifying marks galore were achieved at The Track Meet in San Juan Capistrano, California, led by a pair of all-time top-10 performances Saturday in the 10,000m from Rachel Schneider and Eric Jenkins. Schneider had a big PR of 31:09.79 to take over the No. 7 spot on the women’s U.S. performer list, while Jenkins climbed to ninth on the U.S. men’s performer all-time list with his 27:22.06. Alicia Monson also nabbed the ninth spot on the women’s list with her 31:10.84, and Natosha Rogers claimed No. 10 at 31:12.28.

There were 12 women who ran sub-32:00, eight of whom bettered the Olympic standard of 31:25, and 10 men went under 28:00, including four who were faster than the Olympic standard of 27:28.

Friday’s 5,000m sections produced a pair of women’s Olympic qualifiers, with Shelby Houlihan winning in 15:02.55 and Elise Cranny taking the runner-up spot in 15:04.88. In the penultimate men’s race, Olympic 1,500m champion Matthew Centrowitz outleaned Cole Hocker to win by .03 in 13:32.92, pulling Hocker to the No. 4 position on the all-time U.S. under-20 list. The top American in the fast section was Cooper Teare, who was second in 13:17.13, just ahead of Drew Hunter’s 13:17.55.
