USATF updates Event Hosting Guidance

INDIANAPOLIS — The USATF COVID-19 Working Group has approved an update to its Event Hosting guidance. The update modifies what events are able to be considered for a sanction when the meet locality meets the criteria for Phase 3.

By USATF's guidance definition, in Phase 3 state or local public health authorities allow small group activities that are limited in number, typically ranging from 10 people to as high as 250 people. In this Phase, most public training facilities remain closed or have limited access.

In Phase 3, with permission from local health authorities and agreement with an appropriate venue, USATF's Event Hosting guidance has allowed "micro-events" to be considered for sanction. The updated guidance now allows the total number of individuals who enter the facility for an event to be up to, but not exceeding the state/local guidance for gathering size limits.

USATF has also clarified that all relay events on the track fall under the Moderate Risk category for risk stratification.

In all phases, USATF stresses personal hygiene and social distancing. Until a vaccine is developed, long-term immunity can be confirmed, or a cure is found, there is no way of completely eliminating the risk of fatal infection. This should always be in the forefront when considering return to training or event hosting decisions.

As more information is discovered about COVID-19, the guidance will be amended accordingly. Athletes and coaches are encouraged to visit usatf.org/covid19 regularly for updates.
