Three Team USATF masters athletes win WMA 2019 honors

INDIANAPOLIS – Last week, World Masters Athletics (WMA), the international governing body of masters track & field, announced its annual Athlete of the Year honors.  Three Team USATF athletes were named to the prestigious list. In addition, five other categories had U.S. runners up. Here is a listing of the US honorees:
 
Female Overall Athlete of the Year:  Neringa Jakstiene (W56, Memphis, TN)
Male Sprinter of the Year:  Charles Allie (M72, Pittsburgh, PA)
Male Jumper of the Year:  Antonio Palacios (M53, Bloomington, IN)
 
Female Jumper of the Year Runner Up:  Neringa Jakstiene
Female Combined Event Athlete of the Year Runner Up:  Neringa Jakstiene
Female Thrower of the Year Runner Up:  Myrle Mensey (W70, St. Louis, MO)
Male Thrower of the Year Runner Up:  Quenton (Doug) Torbert (M68, Redlands, CA)
Male Combined Event Athlete of the Year Runner Up:  William Jankovich (M86, Racine, WI)
 
In addition to these honorees, the following USATF athletes were nominated by the region NCCMA and were considered by the WMA Awards Committee:
 
Female Middle Distance Athlete of the Year: Sabra Harvey (W70, Houston, TX)
Male Thrower of the Year:  George Mathews (M76, Edmonds, WA)
