Keturah Orji - Q&A

Athletes are still keeping busy, but finding time to answer a few questions for us to help their fans get to know them better. This is our ninth installment with Olympian five-time USATF Champion, Keturah Orji.

USATF: What other sports have you participated in?
Orji: I played volleyball in high school and loved it so much. My friends know I could go to a beach and play all day. Sand volleyball is one of my favorite things to do and volleyball is for sure my favorite sport. (I also did gymnastics.)

USATF: What’s something you’re passionate about outside of your sport? Why?
Orji: I love reading books and read at least 2 books every month. My goal is to read 30 books this year. My favorite books are A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. I love that books can take you to a completely different place while reading them and allow you to experience the world from someone else's perspective while also working your mind.

USATF: Who is your celebrity crush?
Orji: D Smoke is one of my newer crushes ever since watching Rhythm & Flow on Netflix. He is a rapper and singer, fluent in Spanish, teacher at a high school, can play multiple instruments, and extremely intellectual. I don’t know him personally but from his interviews and music he is very aware of inequalities and his music focuses on uplifting low income communities.

USATF: What is your favorite movie?
Orji: My favorite movie is Rush Hour 2 because the jokes never get old and it has always been a family favorite.

USATF: How do you overcome adversity, especially now when things are so NOT normal?
Orji: Right now I have been using this time to read more and spend time with family since I usually wouldn’t have this opportunity. The main way I overcome adversity is focusing on the positives rather than letting my negative thoughts dwell and grow into more negativity. I also stay in constant communication with my support system whether that be friends or family. Lastly, I have always loved mentoring and helping others so writing on my blog is another outlet I often use.
