D’Amato, Pearson win Michigan Pro Half Marathon titles

SHELBY CHARTER TOWNSHIP, Michigan — Keira D’Amato dramatically lowered her lifetime best and moved to 10th on the all-time U.S. women’s performer list in the half marathon with her 68:57 win at the Michigan Pro Half on Wednesday morning.

D’Amato, who set her previous personal best of 70:01 at Houston in January, turned 36 last week and gave herself a great late birthday gift as she turned back Olympic Trials marathon seventh-placer Emma Bates, who ended up second with a PR 69:44. D’Amato was 15th at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Marathon with a lifetime best 2:34:24. She returned to top-level competition in 2017 after a nine-year hiatus.

Morgan Pearson won a very close men’s race in his debut at the distance, clocking 62:15 to hold off Tyler Day (62:16), Frank Lara (62:17) and Scott Fauble (62:18). Pearson won the USATF Club Cross Country Championships individual title last December.

Also setting a big lifetime best was Day, who had a previous PR of 63:48 and was fresh off leading the NAZ Elite to victory in the Michigan Pro Ekiden last week. Lara was the USATF 15K champion at Jacksonville in March, while Fauble finished 12th at the Olympic Trials marathon. Fauble clipped 40 seconds off his previous PR.
