The Year In Records 2018: Relays

MEN

4x400m:

Team USATF's Fred Kerley, Michael Cherry, Aldrich Bailey and Vernon Norwood grabbed silver at the World Indoor Championships on March 4 at Birmingham, England, with a 3:01.97 American record run, breaking the old mark of 3:02.13 set by the national team at the WIC in Poland. That record lasted a week before USC and Texas A&M battled it out at the NCAA Indoors. USC came away with the fastest time ever run indoors, 3:00.77, while A&M finished in 3:01.39. The Trojans set an American record, but due to the IAAF's more stringent nationality rules, A&M came away with the world record.

4x800m:

Hoka One One's New Jersey New York TC set world and American records with a 7:11.30 at the Boston University Last Chance meet on Feb. 25. Joe McAsey, Kyle Merber, Chris Giesting and Jesse Garn teamed up to knock almost two seconds off the old WR/AR of 7:13.11, set in 2014. Two other teams, the Atlanta TC and the District TC, also dipped under the previous record in the race.

4xMile:

25 years after the New York AC set an AR of 16:16.67, Hoka One One's New Jersey New York TC dropped that mark by almost four seconds with a 16:12.81 at the Artie O'Connor Invitational at New York's Armory on Feb. 17. The quartet of Donn Cabral, Ford Palmer, Graham Crawford and Kyle Merber won by more than 1:20 over the adidas Garden State TC.

WOMEN

4x200m:

A USA All-Star squad of Kyra Jefferson, Deajah Stevens, Daina Harper and Asha Ruth set an American record of 1:32.67 at the Dr. Sander Invitational at New York's Armory on Jan. 27. That broke the previous AR of 1:33.24, set at Glasgow in 1994.

4x400m:

World Indoor gold and an American indoor record went to the foursome of Quanera Hayes, Georganne Moline, Shakima Wimbley and Courtney Okolo as Team USATF dominated in Birmingham on March 4 with a 3:23.85 that gave the U.S. a more-than two-second margin of victory. Their time was almost a second faster than the previous AR of 3:24.83, set in 2014 by Team USATF at the World Indoors in Poland.

4x800m:

Ajee' Wilson anchored a USA All-Star team to an 8:05.89 at the Millrose Games on Feb. 3 to break the world indoor record of 8:06.24 set by a Moscow club team in Russia in 2011. Chrishuna Williams, Raevyn Rogers and Charlene Lipsey set Wilson up for the record run, and her 1:58.37 was just enough to do it.

800m Medley:

Raevyn Rogers' 50.48 400m anchor leg carried Team USATF to a 1:35.20 American record at the Penn Relays. Destinee Brown and Aaliyah Brown ran the opening 100m legs, and Kimberlyn Duncan handled the 200m leg as the quartet took .39 off the previous AR, set in 2017 at Penn.
