HP Comms - May 2024

Mental Health & Mental Performance

  • May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Please visit https://www.usopc.org/mental-health for more information on mental health services and resources available to you.

Olympic Trials Coaches and Medical Provider Registry

  • A reminder that all coaches and personal medical must be members of the USATF Coaches Registry or USATF Medical Provider Registry to obtain a credential for the 2024 U.S. Olympic  Team Trials – Track & Field.  All registry components including SafeSport completion and background screening must be up to date and not expired through the entire competition.  Medical background screenings can take up to 6 weeks or longer to be returned in certain cases.  Coaches and personal medical are advised to verify the expiration dates of their registry components on USATF Connect now. A green, current status under each requirement (e.g. Memberships, Background Screening, Center for SafeSport Training, and Coach Certifications (applies to registered coaches only)) through at least July 1, 2024 must be displayed on their profile. Coach and Medical credential requests for members not in compliance with requirements will be rejected by the online 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Track & Field registration system.

Nutritional IV Information

  • A number of athletes have reached out to USOPC nutritionists in recent days asking about "nutritional IVs".  **Note that in almost all cases, "nutritional IVs" are not allowed under the WADA code (as they routinely exceed 100mL in a 12h period).  Just because a wellness clinic offers them, with MDs and nurses working there, doesn’t mean they are USADA/WADA compliant.  Other professional leagues may allow their use, but not USADA/WADA.  Finally, there is no benefit to standard nutritional IVs/cocktails that we know of, beyond restoring patients/athletes to the euhydrated state.  If you have any questions, be sure to reach out to a USATF Regional Medical Provider or a USOPC sport dietician for more information (handouts linked here).
