Coaches Credentials

As part of USATF's commitment to athlete safety and well-being, we want to remind you of the requirements outlined in USATF's Safe Sport Program. These requirements are essential for all individuals involved in USATF-sanctioned events, including coaches, volunteers, staff, and medical personnel.

1. Training Requirements:

  • All athlete support must complete either the U.S. Center for SafeSport Training or the World Athletics Safeguarding Training.

US Coaches:

  • USATF Registered Coaches must be USATF 3-Step Safe Sport Compliant, which includes completing the SafeSport Trained Core course, a current USATF membership, and passing an annual background screen. You can check on the status of your USATF 3-Step Compliance here.

**If you are missing something, please contact usatfsafesport@usatf.org so we can get everything up to date prior to the event.

International Coaches:

  • International Coaches who are not USATF Registered Coaches must complete the World Athletics Safeguarding Training and provide proof of completion to USATF by emailing the certificate of completion to usatfsafesport@usatf.org or by showing the certificate at accreditation. They must also confirm they have not been convicted of a felony in any jurisdiction.

2. Accreditation Process:

  • All Adult Participants must present a valid ID and be checked against the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s Centralized Disciplinary Database before being accredited for the event.
  • All volunteers, workers, staff, coaches, agents, vendors, and medical personnel must receive and acknowledge receipt of USATF’s Safe Sport Handbook, USATF’s Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP), and USATF’s Safe Sport Reporting Policies before being accredited for the event.
  • All accredited individuals must agree to abide by USATF’s Credential Terms and Conditions for Use, including compliance with all USATF bylaws, regulations, and policies, including but not limited to USATF’s Safe Sport Handbook.

We appreciate your attention to these requirements, as they are crucial for maintaining a safe and positive environment for all participants. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
