The 2023 USATF Masters Half Marathon Championships, hosted by the Syracuse Half Marathon will take place Sunday morning, April 16, 2023.  Those entered in the Championships will be joined by Elite Open Runners for a 7:53 AM start. The Community race will start a few minutes later.

This is the second year the Syracuse Half Marathon has hosted the USATF Masters Half Marathon Championships. The Syracuse HM has been held each year since 2013. The race is held within easy walking distance of a 100,000 square foot Convention Center, the Syracuse Oncenter, with a dedicated room available before and after the race for all Half Marathon participants. The post-race Breakfast and Awards Ceremony in that space was a highlight for the athletes in 2022! USATF Masters Athletes can also attend a post-race party in the Main Floor of the Convention Center. An average race time temperature in the low to mid-40’s is conducive to fast half marathon running. The course record is 1:06:21.

Syracuse is a mid-sized city just east of the Finger Lakes area of Upstate New York. It is home to the Erie Canal Museum, tracing the waterway’s history in the 1850 Weighlock Building. In the old state armory, the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) offers interactive exhibits and a planetarium. Designed by I.M. Pei, the Everson Museum of Art focuses on American artwork. The opulent 1920s Landmark Theatre hosts Broadway hits and concerts. The city is home to Syracuse University. Attractions nearby include Cooperstown, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Seneca Falls, the site of the first Women’s Rights Convention in 1848, and Lake Cayuga, setting for Cornell University and the Cayuga Lake State Park. It is less than an hour’s drive to Lake Ontario; there are several wineries and craft breweries in and around Syracuse.
