USATF is committed to creating a culture that clearly advocates, and provides for, a safe environment in which our athletes compete and participate. USATF believes this is paramount to the success of all our programs. The events listed above are the only events that will be contested during the 2022 USATF Road Racing Virtual Challenge Series. For the 2022 USATF Road Racing Virtual Challenge Series, USATF does not recommend and will not recognize any events not listed on this page. USATF recommends that all participation in the 2022 USATF Road Racing Virtual Challenge Series take place with proper equipment and appropriate supervision and athletes should follow all state and local traffic and safety laws while participating.

Registration Information

This challenge is open to athletes of all ages and to both USATF Members and non-members. Registration will be open for all events on March 2, 2022 and conclude at the end of each respective challenge date (above).

Runners should select a route that is safe while still following state and local COVID-19 restrictions. To find information about local guidelines, runners may visit https://web.csg.org/covid19/state-covid-19-websites-and-related-resources/. USATF also has a Coronavirus information page at www.USATF.org/COVID19. All participants are also required to follow and abide by all traffic safety laws.

Tools such as Google Maps have distance measuring options to roughly measure landmarks in runner’s areas to lay out a course. Loop courses are acceptable. We recommend athletes use the features of AthleticAPP to record the appropriate distance and then automatically upload the GPS Tracked time of their run. Alternatively, runners can submit a photo of another GPS recording device log or activity.

All submissions will be reviewed and verified. Once submission have been reviewed and verified, the leaderboard will be updated in real time to reflect current results. Athletes will be able to view other athletes’ postings and their photo submissions.

How To Submit Your Results

Use the AthleticAPP notification to submit your result. You will have several options:

  • Use AthleticAPP's GPS Record Run
    • Click START and run a 1 Mile course of your choosing.
    • You should attempt to run a "Loop Course" - meaning the start and finish are at the same location to equalize any elevation gain or loss.
    • When you reach 1 Mile, the app will automatically chime and stop your time.
    • Add relevant photos and videos to your submission to complete your virtual story.
    • Tap the submit button to finalize your result.
  • Use a smartwatch or stopwatch to time your 1 Mile
    • Submit a photo of your watch including the time.
  • Post a 1 Mile time from an in-person event, as long as it takes place April 19 - May 3
    • Submit a photo and link to the official event results in the comments.

A video guide on how to submit results can be found here.

Results will need to be submitted via AthleticAPP and should be accompanied by evidence of your result. Note: due to the distance of these events, videos/recordings are not recommended.

You may use the Record Run feature of AthleticAPP, being able to select the appropriate distance and then automatically upload a GPS Tracked time of your run. Alternatively, you can submit a photo of another GPS recording device log or activity.

Once your activity has been uploaded, the leaderboard will be updated in real time to reflect current results. Athletes will be able to view other athletes’ postings or look at photos of their competition. Results for each event will lock on the last day at 11:59 p.m.
