Awards and Prize Money

Awards

A Gold Medal, emblematic of the Championships of the United States of America, will be given to the winner of each Championship event, a Silver Medal to second place, and Bronze Medals to third through sixth place finishers.

Prize Money

For the 2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, USA Track & Field will pay prize money to the first through eight place finishers in each Championship event. The prize structure is as follows:

1st place  $7,000
2nd place    $5,000
3rd place $3,000
4th place $2,000
5th place  $1,000
6th place   $750
7th place   $500
8th place  $500

Notes

  • Athletes who are eligible to receive prize money will receive their payment after all drug testing results from USADA have become final. It can take anywhere from 6-8 weeks and sometimes longer for USATF to receive these results.
  • Athletes with remaining collegiate eligibility will need to check with their university compliance department to verify if they are eligible to receive prize money.
  • Athletes who placed 1-6 in their event will receive prize money from the USOC (additional paperwork required to process this payment). Athletes who placed 7-8 in their event will receive prize money from USATF(additional paperwork required to process these payments).*
    • *USOC payments – Athletes who are eligible to receive prize money will receive an email from USATF with details/forms you will need to complete to receive prize money.
    • *USATF payments – Athletes who are eligible to receive prize money, if this is your first time receiving any type of funding from USATF, will be required to complete the following IRS W-9 form: IRS Form W-9: Request for Taxpayer Identification Number and Certification (PDF, via IRS.gov)
  • Please make sure your mailing address, email, and phone number is up-to-date under your USATF membership profile so there is no delay in USATF contacting you to process your payments.

Credentials

Registered Coach “RC”, Warm-up Pass “WP”, and Stadium Pass “SP” credentials are designed to allow an athlete’s coach and/or personal support access to the warm-up area, athlete seating or practice track for the purpose of preparing for competition. An individual must be 18 years of age or older to receive a credential and a current member of USA Track & Field. Individuals receiving the “RC” registered coach’s credential must also be a member of USA Track & Field’s Coaches Registry. Credentials are non-transferrable and each support person will only be allowed to receive one credential.

Credentials can be obtained at Packet Pick-Up at the Knapp Center Lobby in Des Moines, IA.

Athletes will have the following credential options for their support persons:

  1. One Complimentary Credential Option (pick one of the following):
    • RC - Registered Coach - coach of record (warm-up area and stadium only)
    • WP - Warm-up Pass (no stadium access; warm-up area access only)
    • SP - Stadium Pass (no warm-up area access; stadium seating)
    • Each participating athlete may request one of the above options for his or her personal support by specifying the name of the individual designated to receive that credential on his or her on-line entry form. There is no fee for this credential.
  2. Second Credential Option for purchase (pick one of the following):
  3. WP - Warm-up Pass (no stadium access; warm-up area access only)
  4. SP - Stadium Pass (no warm-up area access; stadium seating)
  5. Each participating athlete may request to purchase one of the above options for his or her personal support by specifying the name of the individual designated to receive that credential on his or her on-line entry form. There is a fee for the second credential option.
  6. Price for 2nd credential: $70

Please note that all support persons accessing the warm-up area will be required to show a picture ID.

Credential category details below:

RC - Registered Coach Credential (best option for coach)
All coaches designated to receive a “RC” credential must be a current member of USATF and must be a current member of the USATF Coaches Registry, prior to receiving a “RC” credential. Individuals must have completed and been approved (be listed on the USATF Coaches Registry) prior to their arrival in Des Moines, IA. Only the individuals specified by participating athletes for this purpose will be allowed to receive a “RC” credential. You will not have the option to sign up for the Coaches Registry on-site  (Des Moines, IA) to obtain a coaches credential. WP - Warm-up Pass Credential (best option for personal medical)
Personal support designated to receive a “WP” must be a current (2013) member of USATF. Please renew or sign-up for a membership at the following link: http://www.usatf.org/Products---Services/Individual-Memberships.aspx. Only the individuals specified by participating athletes for this purpose will be allowed to receive a “WP” credential. Personal medical receiving this pass must have a medical license on file or bring a copy to packet pick-up).  There is no stadium access with this credential.

Please note that all support persons accessing the warm-up area will be required to show a picture ID.

Stadium Pass Credential (best option for family member or friend)
Personal support designated to receive a “SP” must be a current (2013) member of USATF. Please renew or sign-up for a membership at the following link: http://www.usatf.org/Products---Services/Individual-Memberships.aspx. Only the individuals specified by participating athletes for this purpose will be allowed to receive a “SP” credential. There is no warm-up access with this credential.

USATF reserves the right to deny or revoke a “RC”, “WP”, or “SP” credential to any personal support who USATF has reason to believe (a) has committed an anti- doping rule violation or materially contributed to the commission of an anti- doping rule violation; or (b) is under investigation by the United States Anti- Doping Agency (“USADA”) or other authorities with respect to a potential anti- doping rules violation; or (c) has engaged in conduct deemed by USATF to reflect a pattern of unethical behavior.

Other stipulations that apply to “WP” and “SP” credentials:

  • Must not have a violent felony conviction.
  • Must not have a non-violent felony conviction within 3 years.
  • Any unauthorized person in possession of a credential and any unauthorized person found in a credential-restricted area (the athlete warm-up areas, or other restricted zones) will be immediately escorted from the facility, the credential will be revoked, and the unauthorized person may be subject to penalty.

Please note that all support persons accessing the warm-up area will be required to show a picture ID.

All implements must be checked in at least 3 hours prior to the scheduled start time of the event.

National Team Sign-Up

Please bring passports to National Team Sign-Up!*

*Athletes selected for the World Championships team will require a visa for entry into Russia. Athletes must bring a current passport and leave it with USATF as part of the visa application process. Athletes who do not bring their passport or are unable to leave it will be required to obtain a visa for Russia on their own. USATF will reimburse standard visa processing fees only.

The 2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships will serve as the selection meet for the international competitions listed below for Open athletes. All athletes are required to complete team sign-up in order to be eligible for 2013 USA National Teams. Those who do not complete team sign-up by 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 23rd will forfeit their rank for selection to national teams for the 2013 season.

The following teams will draw their rosters from the 2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships:

  • 2013 IAAF World Championships in Athletics (Aug 10 – 18, Moscow, Russia)
  • 2013 Thorpe Cup - USA vs. Germany Decathlon & Heptathlon (July 27 – 28, Chula Vista, California)

Athletes should bring the following to team processing:

  • Travel and competition plans for the summer
  • Valid U.S. passport*
  • Necessary information to complete forms (contact information for agents, coaches, etc.)

* Athletes must have a current passport good for at least 6 months after the return date from the National Team event.

The first four (4) places in all track and field finals should complete paperwork at team sign-up. All finalists in the 100m and 400m should also complete the team sign-up process in order to be eligible for the national team relay pools.

Reminder: without exception, those not completing team sign-up will not be eligible for 2013 outdoor national teams.

Team Sign-up Schedule

Athletes will be directed by a member of the World Championships staff to the team sign-up area located at the tennis center immediately after the final of their event.  Athletes must complete team processing on the day of their finals. We strongly suggest coming to the team sign-up room immediately after drug testing.

Personal coaches who wish to apply for a World Championship housing/credential package must accompany their athlete to team sign-up to complete an application. Coaches will need tentative travel dates to complete the application and their credit card will be swiped so that we have correct credit card information on file. All personal coaches housing must be paid for in advance.

Practice Information

Warm-up Facility Hours of Operation

The athlete warm-up area at Drake University features the Knapp Center indoor facility which is less than 200 meters from Drake Stadium.

The Knapp Center indoor warm-up area is open to all credentialed athletes and athlete support personnel for warm-up or shakeouts.

  • All bags will be subject to search.

The day-of-competition warm-up area is located at the northeast corner of Drake Stadium. This area houses the tent for the Clerks and will serve as the call area before the competitors are escorted into Drake Stadium prior to their event.

Only athletes on that day’s start list will be permitted to enter the day-of-competition warm-up area. Credentialed athlete support personnel WILL NOT have access to the day-of competition warm-up area, but will be permitted around the perimeter of the area and will be able to communicate with their athlete until the athlete is escorted to the field of play.

These areas will be open at the following times:

Wednesday, June 19 - 10:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, June 20 - 8:30 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.
Friday, June 21 - 8:30 a.m. – 9:15 a.m.
Saturday, June 22 - 5:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Sunday, June 23 - 6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. & 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

No competitor is allowed onto the field of competition without an escort once competition begins.

Practice Schedule at Drake Stadium

Practice for credentialed athletes ONLY will be held at Drake Stadium on June 17–18, with an available practice session on June 19 for hammer throw only, at the following times:

Suitable Marking Material for Mondo Surfaces

For field events runway markings, athletic tape is the only suitable material permitted.

Spikes Allowed for Mondo Surfaces

Only 1/4" or 7mm CONES for the track and 9mm CONES for high jump and javelin. No Christmas trees or needles permitted.

Alternate Practice Facilities

The LOC has made arrangements for the athletes of the 2013 USATF Outdoor Championships to utilize two of the greater Des Moines Area new high school tracks for practice purposes.

East High School-Williams Stadium - 1591 E University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50316
Waukee High School - 555 Southeast University Avenue, Waukee, Iowa 50263

  1. Days of track availability: Wednesday, June 19 – Friday, June 21
  2. Hours of track availability: Williams Stadium - 12 PM – 6 PM
    Waukee High School - 12 PM – 6 PM
  3. Equipment availability: High Jump pit – standards and crossbar
    30-40 hurdles
    4-5 starting blocks
  4. Facility Limitations: No Hammer, Pole Vault, Steeple Chase or Javelin at Waukee High School
    No Javelin runway at Williams Stadium
  5. Facility Usage: Only Athletes and Coaches that are entered in the competition can use the track under their own free will.
  6. Directions:

From the East: - Take I-80/ I-35 W to the University Avenue exit. Go West (right) on University approximately 5 miles. The high school is on the north (right) side of the road. OR Take I-235 West through Des Moines to the 74th St. Exit in West Des Moines. Go north (right) on 74th St. to University Avenue. Go West (left) on University Approximately 3 miles. The high school is on the north (right) side of the road.

From the South - Take I/80/I-35 north to the University Ave. exit. Go west (left) on University approximately 5 miles. High School is on the North (right) side of the road. The Track is just across Ashworth Drive, just west of the High School.

East High School- Williams Stadium – 1591 E. University Ave, Des Moines

From the North: - Take I-35 S toward I-35 BUS/Des Moines. Continue onto I-235 West. Take exit 9 for US-69/E 15th St toward E 14th St. Turn right at Johnson Ct/Us-69 N. Take the 1st right. E 15th St & Walker St.

From the South: - Take I-35 North. Take exit 72A to merge onto I-235 E toward W Des Moines/Des Moines. Take exit 9 toward US-69/E 14th St/E 15th St. Merge onto Lyon St. Turn left at E 15th St. Continue onto Johnson Ct, Turn right. E 15th St & Walker St.

From the West: - Take I-80 E. Continue straight onto I-235 E (signs for I-235 E/W Des Moines/Des Moines). Take exit 9 toward US-69/E 14th St/ E 15th St. Merge onto Lyon St. Turn left at E 15th St. Continue onto Johnson Ct, Turn right. E 15th St & Walker St.

From the East: - Take I-80 W. Take exit 137A on the left to merge onto I-235 W toward Des Moines. Take exit 9 for US-69/E 15th St toward E 14th St. Turn right at Johnson Ct/US-69 N. Take the 1st right. E 15th St & Walker St.
