Below, USATF staff member Jordan Testerman walks through stats and trends for each question in this USATF Fantasy Pick’em Pool. For further analysis and discussion, check out the latest episode of the USATF Fantasy Show on USATF’s YouTube channel.

Q: Who will win the Women’s Shot Put at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • Jessica Schilder comes into this competition with the furthest Season’s Best at 21.09m.
  • Chase Jackson has won the last two editions of the Prefontaine Classic Women’s Shot Put, beating Jessica Schilder and Sarah Mitton on both occasions.
  • This season, Jackson is 3-2 against Schilder and 6-0 against Mitton head-to-head.
    • Jackson is 29-13 and 39-13 head-to-head all-time against these two, respectively.
  • Schilder is 5-2 against Sarah Mitton head-to-head this season, but only 21-28 head-to-head all-time.
  • No other entrants in this field have thrown over 20 meters this season.
    • In 2026, Jackson has not lost to anyone in this field besides Schilder, and Mitton has only suffered defeats to Schilder and Jackson.

Q: Will the furthest mark in the Men’s Discus Throw be farther than or equal to 70.00m (229 feet 7.75 inches) at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • Matthew Denny comes into this competition with the furthest Season’s Best at 74.04m.
  • Seven of the ten men in this field have thrown over 70 meters this season, but only two of them have done it outside of Millican Field in Ramona, OK.
    • Kristjan Čeh has thrown over 70 meters in three competitions aside from Ramona meets, most recently in Zagreb on June 26.
    • Mykolas Alekna threw 70.60m in his lone competition so far this season.
  • Alekna had two attempts over 70 meters at the Prefontaine Classic last year.

Q: Who will win the Men’s 400m at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • Busang Collen Kebinatshipi comes into this race with the fastest Season’s Best at 43.54, only 0.01 off his Personal Best.
  • Chris Bailey is coming off a Personal Best performance of 44.06 at the Paris Diamond League Meeting. He is 4-2 head-to-head with Kebinatshipi all-time, although is 0-2 this season.
  • Jacory Patterson has a Season’s Best of 44.11 and is 3-2 head-to-head against Kebinatshipi all-time.
  • Michael Norman has the fastest Personal Best in the field at 43.45. He is currently undefeated against Kebinatshipi head-to-head at 1-0.
  • 400m Hurdles Olympic & World Champion Rai Benjamin looks to improve on his Personal Best of 44.21 in the flat 400m. He won his lone race of 2026 – a 44.69 in the 400m at the SEIKO Golden Grand Prix.
  • Quincy Hall has scratched from the competition.

Q: Who will win the Men’s 110m Hurdles at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • This will be Ja’Kobe Tharp’s first race since winning the NCAA title where he broke Aries Merritt’s World Record in the Semi-Finals with a stunning 12.75.
  • NCAA runner-up Kendrick Smallwood has scratched from the competition.
  • Jamal Britt has already run sub-13 seconds three times this season, most recently at the Paris Diamond League Meeting where he clocked the second-fastest time in the world this season at 12.89. These three performances all happened within a span of two weeks.
  • Jamar Marshall looks to improve on his Season’s Best of 13.04 from the USATF Lone Star Grand Prix where he took the victory.
  • Reigning World Champion Cordell Tinch also looks to improve on his Season’s Best of 13.10. He is 1-4 head-to-head against Britt this season.

Q: Will the furthest mark in the Women’s Long Jump be farther than or equal to 7.15m (23 feet 5.50 inches) at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • Reigning Olympic & World Champion Tara Davis-Woodhall made a big statement in her season opener at the USATF Los Angeles Grand Prix, winning the competition with a wind-aided 7.25m and backing it up with a legal 7.20m Personal Best that currently stands as the World-Leading mark. She also ran 12.47 in the 100m Hurdles earlier that day, taking second place to Olympic Champion Masai Russell.
  • Of this field, only Davis-Woodhall and Malaika Mihambo have jumped further than 7.15m in their careers.
    • Davis-Woodhall is the only entrant with a Season’s Best further than 7.15m.
  • Lex Brown and Alyssa Jones have Season’s Bests of 7.07m and 7.09m, respectively.

Q: Who will win the Men’s Shot Put at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • Joe Kovacs comes into this competition with the furthest Season’s Best at 22.58m.
  • Leonardo Fabbri has thrown over 22 meters in four separate competitions this season – the most of anyone in this field. Jordan Geist has three such competitions, and Rajindra Campbell has two.
  • World Record-holder Ryan Crouser has scratched from the competition.

Q: Will every finisher in the Women’s Mutola 800m at the 51st Prefontaine Classic run faster than or equal to 2:00.00?

  • The most recent Diamond League Meeting in Paris saw every finisher clock sub-1:59.
  • Everyone in this field besides Paris Peoples has run at least 1:58.41 or faster this season.
    • Peoples is a late addition to the start list, and her main event is the 400m. It is likely that she is entered here as a pacemaker and will not finish the race.
  • Besides Peoples, everyone in this field has a Personal Best of 1:57.65 or faster.

Q: Who will win the Men’s 200m at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • Letsile Tebogo has the fastest Season’s Best in the field at 19.84.
  • The rest of the field is not far behind as Jose Figueroa, Makanakaishe Charamba, Bryan Levell, Sam Blaskowski, and Tate Taylor have all run within 0.1 seconds of Tebogo’s Season’s Best.
    • All of these athletes with the exception of Levell have run Personal Bests this season, so while Tebogo is the class of the field, this should be a very competitive race.

Q: Who will win the Women’s 100m Final at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • Adaejah Hodge comes into this race with the fastest Season’s Best at 10.63, although she lost her most recent 100m race at the NCAA Championships.
  • Reigning World Champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden has raced sparingly thus far this season but holds a Season’s Best of 10.84.
  • Jefferson-Wooden’s training partner, 2023 World Champion Sha’Carri Richardson, has the second-fastest time in the world this year at 10.77.
  • Two-time 200m World Champion Shericka Jackson just clocked 10.81 into a slight headwind to win the Jamaican Championship.
  • Tina Clayton and Tia Clayton have Season’s Bests of 10.85 and 10.91, respectively.
  • There are Heats and a Final for this event, so the ability to run rounds should be considered when making a selection here.

Q: Will any athlete set a new World Record on Saturday, July 4th at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • Last year’s edition of the Prefontaine Classic saw two world records set by Faith Kipyegon in the Women’s 1500m and Beatrice Chebet in the Women’s 5000m.
    • Kipyegon returns to the meet this year in the Women’s Mile, where another World Record could seemingly fall.
  • Ja’Kobe Tharp just set the Men’s 110m Hurdles World Record at Hayward Field three weeks ago.
  • Masai Russell’s Season’s Best of 12.14 is only 0.02 seconds off the World Record in the Women’s 100m Hurdles.

Tiebreaker Q: To the nearest hundredth of a second (e.g., 3:43.13, 4:00.00, etc.), what will the official winning time be in the Men’s Bowerman Mile at the 51st Prefontaine Classic?

  • This entirely depends on the established pace, which may be discussed during the press conference. Yared Nuguse has the fastest Personal Best in the field of 3:43.97, which was set at the Prefontaine Classic in 2023. He and Cameron Myers seem to be the fittest in the field so far this season, but history would dictate that we can never count out Olympic 1500m Champion Cole Hocker – especially at his alma mater.

You can follow this event by tuning in to Peacock from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. EDT and NBC from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday, July 4th.
