Renee Chube Washington joined USA Track & Field as Chief Operating Officer in June 2012. As COO, she oversees USATF's multi-million-dollar budget and approximately 60-person staff and works with the CEO on organizational strategy and direction.
Washington has broad oversight of USATF's departments, including High Performance Programs, Events and Broadcast/Entertainment Properties, Merchandise, Legal, Revenue and Marketing, Communications, Grassroots Outreach and Youth, Finance and Revenue. Her responsibilities also include contract negotiations and vendor agreements, staff and athlete travel and transportation, and the preparation and logistics for meetings of USATF's 26-member Board of Directors. She also serves as a primary point of contact with international and regional federations.
Since joining USATF, Washington has overseen operational cost savings and the implementation of new business policies and practices. During her tenure, USATF has awarded four U.S. Olympic Team Trials, secured the World Athletics Indoor and Outdoor Championships, participated in four Olympic Games and five World Championships including serving on the Board of the local organizing committee for the 2022 World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
She also launched the U.S. National 12K Road Race, hosted a meeting of the World Athletics Council and revamped the USATF Annual Meeting. Washington has also participated in national Olympic and Paralympic governance initiatives. From 2018 through 2019, she served on the USOPC Athlete and NGB Engagement Commission, later renamed the Borders Commission. From 2019 through 2020, she served on the USOPC Member Certification Focus Group, which examined standards, measurement and auditing processes for organizations seeking certification. She is a member of the World Athletics Remuneration Committee.
Before joining USATF, Washington held legal and contracts positions in the corporate, nonprofit, state and federal sectors. She was a contracts manager with Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation and contracts department director for CICOA, a nonprofit organization serving older adults. She previously served as a staff attorney in the Indiana Attorney General's Office and held several positions with the U.S. Department of Labor, including Deputy Associate General Counsel and Acting Associate General Counsel.
Washington earned her law degree from Georgetown University and her undergraduate degree from Spelman College where she serves as a trustee. She was named a Sports Business Journal Game Changer in 2017; 2024 World Athletics Woman of the Year; 2024 Women in Sports + Events (WISE) Woman of the Year and named a 2026 Indiana Living Legend honoree. She lives in Indianapolis and has a husband and a daughter.
