2027 Event Announced for Eugene, Oregon
INDIANAPOLIS – The 2026 Toyota USATF Outdoor and Para National Championships will come to New York City for the first time in the event’s history, USA Track & Field announced today. The event, held in collaboration with USATF-New York, Randall’s Island Park Alliance, Central Park Track Club and New York Road Runners will be held July 23-26 at Icahn Stadium at Randall’s Island Park.
“The Toyota USTAF Outdoor and Para National Championships are annually among the most exciting track and field events on the global calendar,” said Max Siegel, CEO of USATF. “We are excited for the opportunity to hold our marquee meet in New York City where the United States’ top runners, jumpers and throwers will get to showcase their talents in front of new and longtime fans.”
Icahn Stadium seats 5,000 spectators, with the capability to expand to accommodate more fans. It is easily accessible from all five boroughs of New York City and is a NYC Parks facility. Icahn Stadium is operated by the Randall’s Island Park Alliance and features a brand-new Mondo track surface installed in late 2025.
USATF, the governing body for track and field in the United States, combined its able-bodied competition with its parathletics division for the first time in 2025, sending teams to represent the United States at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo and the World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi. The teams won a combined 25 gold medals, records for U.S. teams at World Championship events.
While there are no world championships in 2026, many of the United States’ top track and field athletes have already begun preparing for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics which will take place in Los Angeles.
"From Triborough Stadium to Icahn Stadium, Randall’s Island Park has hosted some of the most memorable moments in track and field history over the past 90 years,” said Randall’s Island Park Alliance President Deborah Maher. “New York City’s prolific running community makes it the perfect setting for this year’s USATF Outdoor Championships, and Icahn Stadium’s rich legacy makes it an ideal venue. The Randall’s Island Park Alliance is honored to host these championships.”
The USATF Outdoor Championships have been held annually since 1993, but never in New York City. The last national track and field championship to be held in New York was the 1991 Athletics Congress of the USA Championship which was held at Downing Stadium, the site of the current Icahn Stadium. That meet included a world record-setting 100m run of 9.90 by Leroy Burrell. The Athletics Congress also held their men’s championship at Downing in 1966 where Bill Toomey set a world record in the decathlon. Men’s championships were previously held on Randall’s Island in 1961 and 1942 through 1945. Icahn Stadium has hosted international competitions including the Diamond League where in 2008, Jamaica’s Usain Bolt set a world record in the 100m. Kenya’s David Rudisha ran the fastest 800m ever run on U.S. soil at a Diamond League meet at Icahn Stadium in 2012.
“Central Park Track Club is absolutely thrilled to co-host the USATF Outdoor and Para National Championships as part of our long history of supporting New York City athletes for the national and international stage,” said CPTC’s Executive Director Devon Martin. “This is one of the most exciting events ever for the whole NYC running community.”
“As the nonprofit that ‘runs’ New York City and the producer of 60 annual adult and youth races including the TCS New York City Marathon, we’re thrilled to work with USATF to bring this iconic event to our community,” said New York Road Runners CEO Rob Simmelkjaer. “Whether on the roads or on the track, we believe in the power of movement to transform lives and are excited to inspire New Yorkers to lace up as they witness world-class performances from the country’s top track and field athletes in their backyard.”
Since 2021, The USATF Outdoor Championships have been held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. It was the site of the inaugural combined able-bodied and para championship in 2025. Both will return to Eugene in 2027. The exact date will be determined in the near future.
"We are thrilled to welcome back the 2027 Toyota USATF Outdoor Championships and Para National Championships," said TrackTown USA CEO Michael Reilly. "It is an honor to host the nation’s best athletes at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon. Working together with our partners in Eugene and Springfield, I’m confident that fans from across the country will have an amazing experience cheering on their favorite athletes as they compete for a spot on Team USA.”
Qualifying standards for the 2026 Toyota USATF Outdoor and Para National Championships will be announced in the coming weeks. The event will be broadcast live on NBC Saturday and Sunday July 25-26. It will be streamed on USATF.tv July 23-24. Tickets will be available in the spring.
