INDIANAPOLIS – USA Track & Field has announced the staff rosters selected for four 2025 senior teams, including the World Athletics Championships, World Athletics Relays, World Athletics Road Running Championships, and NACAC Championships.
Georgia director of track and field Caryl Smith-Gilbert, a two-time National Coach of the Year after leading Southern Cal's women to NCAA titles in 2018 and 2021, heads up the women's team for Tokyo 25 and will be directly responsible for the sprint and hurdle events. Smith-Gilbert, the first female head coach of a men's team in the history of the University of Georgia, has previously served on World Championships and Pan Am U20 Championships staffs for Team USATF.
Two-time Olympian and four-time World Championships team member Kibwe Johnson will lead the U.S. men and handle the throws. Ranked fourth on the all-time U.S. hammer throw performer list, Johnson was eighth at the 2012 Olympic Games and won Pan American Games gold in 2011 and 2015. Currently an assistant coach at Southeastern Louisiana University, Johnson previously served as Director of Track & Field and head coach at the SPIRE Academy in Ohio and is the founder of FORTIUS Performance.
Darryl Woodson, who was recently named as the USATF relay coach, guided Team USATF 4x400 athletes to a pair of dominant victories at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing last month and will continue to lead the relays at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou.
