Hedengren's American U20 record earns her USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Bettering the women's American U20 record* in the 5000, Jane Hedengren (Provo, UT/USATF Utah) earned recognition as the 15th USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2025.

Hedengren, 18, clipped more than 27 seconds off the ratified American U20 record of 15:25.93 with her 14:57.93 at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, and also broke her own absolute national high school record, set when the Timpview High School senior clocked 15:13.26i to win the Nike Indoor Nationals last month.

Winner of the Nike Indoor Nationals in the mile with a national prep record of 4:26.14i, Hedengren also claimed the high school record for two miles with a 9:34.12 at the Arcadia Invitational on April 12.

Other top performances from last week:

  • Hakim McMorris scored a world-leading 8,258 points to win the men's decathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays.

  • Trey Cunningham won the men's 110 hurdles at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida in a world-leading 13.09.

  • Anavia Battle won the women's 100 in a world-leading 10.98 at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida.

  • Grace Stark won the women's 100 hurdles in a world-leading 12.51 at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida.

  • Chris Robinson won the men's 400 in a world-leading 44.15 at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida.

  • Aaliyah Butler of Georgia moved to No. 6 on the all-time collegiate performer list in the women's 400 with a 49.44 to win at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida.
