Hitchings' 10-Mile record* earns her USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS — Bettering the ratified American women's age 60-64 10-mile record by more than two minutes, Jenny Hitchings (Sacramento, California/USATF Pacific) earned recognition as the 32nd USATF Athlete of the Week award winner for 2023.

Hitchings, who turned 60 on July 1, ran 62:58 at the Buffalo Stampede in Sacramento, bettering Kathryn Martin's AR of 65:27 that was set in 2012. Her time yielded a 99.68% age grading and placed her second overall and first in the master's women's division. Hitchings holds American women's age 55-59 records in the 5K, 10K, 10-mile, half marathon and marathon.

Other top performances from last week:

  • Maggie Malone had the best women's javelin throw by an American in 2023, winning the Szczecin, Poland, meet with a 64.04/210-1. She also won the Zagreb Continental Tour meet with a best of 63.71/209-0.
  • Grant Fisher won the Rovereto men's 3000 in 7:33.32, the fastest outdoor time by an American this year and the fifth-fastest in the world outdoors in 2023.
