Olympians, World Champions kick off 2020 World Athletics Indoor Tour in Boston

BOSTON -- Saturday evening the 25th edition of the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix will kick off the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Tour with 2019 World Champions Nia Ali and Donavan Brazier highlight the elite fields at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College.

The 2020 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix will be broadcast live on the NBCSN and NBC Sports Gold from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET.

800m World Champion and American record holder Donavan Brazier kicks off his 2020 season in the 600m. The 22-year-old is coming off a record-breaking 2019 season in which he became the first American man to win Diamond League and World Athletics Championships titles over 800m. His gold medal winning performance in Doha set a new American record, 1:42.34. His 2019 indoor season was also stellar, setting an American indoor record for 800m (1:44.41) and a new world best for 600m, 1:13.77. 

Olympic silver medalist, 2019 World Champion and 2016 World Indoor Champion Nia Ali will battle a deep field in the 60m Hurdles. Last year, Ali completed her another remarkable return following the birth of her second child to win gold at the World Athletics Championships in Doha with a new lifetime best, 12.34. Christina Clemons, the 2018 World Indoor Championships silver medalist and sixth-fastest woman in history at the 60m hurdles also gets her 2020 campaign started in Boston. Olympian and World Indoor Champion Lolo Jones returns to the track following three years battling injuries.

2017 World Champion Emma Coburn, who will be making her sixth appearance at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, competing in the two mile. Coburn, won the silver medal at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, and earned her eighth USATF national title in the steeplechase.

The 2020 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix kicks off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College and is the only U.S. stop on the World Athletics Indoor Tour. The series of seven international events with stops in Karlsruhe and Düsseldorf (Germany), Torun (Poland), Glasgow (Great Britain), Liévin (France) and Madrid (Spain) awards overall tour winners $20,000 and a guaranteed spot at the 2020 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China (March 13-15).
