Throws Take Center Stage at Day Three of World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships

Toruń, Poland — Day three of the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships was highlighted by a slew of silver, along with a handful of gold and bronze medals. Team USATF still sits in third in the medal standings with 44 after three days.

Emma McGowan (Sugar Hill, Georgia), who will turn 55 in June, picked up her first gold of the competition in the W50 400m. In the process, she bettered her own American age group record, set in Toruń at the World Masters Athletics Indoor Championships in 2019. McGowan outran the top two Spaniards with her 1:00.83 over their 1:01.34 and 1:01.59.

Bob Cahners (Naples, Florida) earned his second gold of the Championship with a win in the M80 hammer throw to complement his day one weight throw success. Once again, every one of Cahners’ throws was far enough to claim the gold, with his furthest mark reaching out to 37.47m in the third round.

Adding to her day two glory, Gloria Krug (New Oxford, Pennsylvania) earned her second gold of the competition in the W90 weight throw. Her best throw of 5.76m came in the second round.
