Tuesdays with Toyota – Michael Brown

Tuesdays with Toyota spotlights USATF's most dedicated members.

Meet Michael Brown, a Masters athlete and a member of the USATF New York Association from St. Albans, New York.

My journey with USA Track and Field started back in 2014, but I’ve been running track since 1996. During this time, I’ve come across a lot of great talent of all ages. It has made me appreciate all of this and be thankful that I have the opportunity to run and compete with these people.

In 2003, I was robbed and stabbed 13 times and recovered to compete in track and field this year. I also gave up one of my kidneys to help my mother and now I’m getting ready to compete again in track and field.

I’m thankful for the supreme Master athletes that have never given up that keep going and going, especially the athletes that are over 40+ - I salute you and thank you. I appreciate all that you have done for us younger generations of runners, letting us know there’s no limit.

Track and field has saved my life in so many ways; it has helped me to be more focused on what I need to get done and it has never judged nor given up on me. Some of my favorite memories were winning my first 400m USATF Masters title, becoming an All-American, and seeing these other Masters athletes set world records.

I’m so thankful for the runners of the past, the present, and those that are the future pushing track and field forward.
