Huddle Betters Three Track Records

Two-time Olympian and five-time World Championships team member Molly Huddle ignored the unfriendly conditions at Attleboro, Massachusetts, bettering three venerable American distance records Sunday on the track. All records are pending ratification.
 
Attacking a trio of marks set by Nancy Conz in 1981, Huddle first eclipsed the existing 15K record (pending) of 53:06, passing that point in 50:07.82, and then went through 10 miles in 53:49.9 to chop more than two minutes off the 55:58 run by Conz. The final mark fell when the clock stopped at one hour and Huddle had traversed 17,930 meters to add 657m to Conz’s AR.
 
Annmarie Tuxbury was also under the existing ARs behind Huddle, passing 15K in 51:12.84 and 10 miles in 55:01.1. She covered 17,569m in the allotted hour.

Arkansas Sweeps SEC Titles To Lead Collegiate Conference Action
 
Placing five men and four women in the top 10 individually, Arkansas swept the SEC Championships in cross country at Baton Rouge. Lauren Gregory was the top finisher for either team, taking fourth in the women’s 6K race to help her team to a 16-point win over runners-up Alabama. The Hogs were 24 points better than Mississippi in the men’s team title chase, scoring 35 points to win their record 26th SEC crown.
 
Iowa State’s women dominated the Big 12 meet behind individual champion Callie Logue, but it took a tiebreaker to decide the men’s title as Oklahoma State and Iowa State both finished with 31 points. Oklahoma State won on the basis of more head-to-head wins against the Cyclones.
 
Yared Nuguse led the Notre Dame men to victory by 14 points over North Carolina State at the ACC Championships, but the North Carolina State women were big winners with a 52-point edge over Georgia Tech as Dominique Clairmonte led the way with individual gold.
 
The other four major NCAA Division I conference crowns went to the Charlotte men and Middle Tennessee State women in Conference USA, and the South Alabama men and Arkansas State women in the Sun Belt.
