Athlete Dinner & Awards Banquet

Time:                  6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. – Social hour with cash bar
                           7:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. – Dinner
                           8:00 p.m. – Athlete of the Year Awards ceremony
                           Stay and enjoy entertainment after the awards ceremony
 
Tickets:              Tickets are $30 and required to attend the banquet.

Awards

The first three finishers in each event will receive gold, silver, and bronze 2014 USA Masters Outdoor Track and Field Championships medals.  If a non-U.S. citizen finishes in first, second, or third place in an event s/he will receive a duplicate medal but will not displace the U.S. citizens who finished behind him or her.

USA Champions will also receive a championship patch; only one patch will be awarded to an individual athlete no matter how many events s/he wins.

The fourth, fifth, and sixth place finishers in each event will each receive a USA Masters Championship ribbon.  If a non-U.S. citizen finishes in fourth, fifth, or sixth place in an event s/he will also receive a ribbon but will not displace the U.S. citizens who finished behind him or her.

Team Championship

Team trophies will be presented to the first place, second place, and third place teams.  Scoring is combined men and women.  Points are awarded as follows:
  • 1st place – 8 points
  • 2nd place – 6 points
  • 3rd place – 4 points
  • 4th place – 3 points
  • 5th place – 2 points
  • 6th place – 1 point

Trophy presentations will take place in the infield at the conclusion of the meet.

Bib & Hip Numbers

Your competitor (bib) number must be worn on the front during all competitions (exceptions for High Jump, Pole Vault and Throws athletes).  In addition, all track athletes will be required to wear a bib number on their back indicating their age division.  Hip numbers for events 400m and longer must be worn on the right hip.  You may pick up your bib numbers during the scheduled packet pick-up times.

Declarations

The declarations and check-in tables for all track (running and walk) races will be located in the clerk’s tent located on the south side of the track. The clerk’s tent will open each morning at 7:00 a.m. (subject to final event schedule).

Running/Track Events: You must declare at least 60 minutes before the scheduled starting time of your event at the clerk’s tent.

Field Events: Athletes must check-in at the event venue (i.e. high jump apron, throwing rings, etc.) at least 20 minutes before the scheduled time for the event.

Notes:   

  • If you do not declare, you will not compete!  NO EXCEPTIONS.       
  • Packet/number pick-up is NOT declaring.     
  • For early morning events, declaration sheets will be posted the afternoon before.  You MUST sign these sheets (declaring) if you are going to compete.  Failure to declare means you will be scratched from the event and WILL NOT compete.

Athletes competing in the first two groups of the pentathlon on Thursday should check in at the clerking area at least 30 minutes prior to the start of their age group.

Wake Forest University is located just a few short miles from downtown Winston-Salem and is easily accessible from major interstates including I-40 and I-85.  The pristine 340-acre campus is both warm and inviting; providing visitors a true taste of southern hospitality.
 
Kentner Stadium, with seating for approximately 4,000, provides a complete championship-quality track & field facility with an eight lane Beynon BSS 1000 polyurethane surface track and field amenities including a steeplechase pit, two long/triple jump areas, two high jump areas, shot put ring, pole vault runway, discus ring, hammer cage, and javelin run.

Washington, D.C. (and points north): Take I-95 south to I-85 south to I-40 west.  In Winston-Salem, take Business 40 to the Silas Creek Parkway North exit and follow signs.
 
Raleigh (and points east): Take I-40 west to Winston-Salem.  Take Business 40 to the Silas Creek Parkway North exit and follow the signs.
 
Charlotte (and points south): Take I-77 north to I-40.  Go east toward Winston-Salem.  Merge onto Business 40.  Take the Silas Creek Parkway North exit and follow the signs.
 
Asheville (and points west): Take I-40 east to Winston-Salem.  Take Business 40 to the Silas Creek Parkway North exit and follow the signs.
 
From downtown Winston-Salem: North on Cherry Street and continue onto University Parkway for approximately 2.5 miles; turn left onto Wake Forest Road.  Kentner Stadium is on the left.

Facility Hours

The facility will be open during the following hours each day (subject to change based on final schedule):

*On Wednesday, the field event areas (vertical, horizontal jumps and throws) will be open for inspection only, no practice will be allowed.  The track will be available for inspection and warm up activities.  No one will be permitted to use hurdles.  There will be no trainers available and no coolers or water available – athletes must come prepared.

**Showers will be provided in Reynolds Gymnasium from Noon - 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 20 ONLY.  The showers will be located in the men's and women's FIRST FLOOR locker rooms. Please plan to provide you own towels and amenities.

Implements & Spikes

Field Event Implements and Implementation Inspection

Two competition-approved implements of every size and weight will be provided.  However, it is recommended that you bring your own implement and have it certified at the Implement Inspection area.  The Implement Inspection area will be located at the north end of the main grandstand, near the restrooms.

Athletes wishing to use their own implements must submit those implements at least two hours before the scheduled start of their throwing event.  If an implement is being used in both the pentathlon and a regular event, please pick it up following the pentathlon and resubmit it before the regular event.  If you don’t, it will not be available for use at the regular event.

Implement Inspection will be open as follows (subject to change based on final schedule):

  • Wednesday, July 16                  4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 17                      6:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday, July 18                           6:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 19                      6:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 20                         6:30 a.m. – noon

All implements should be checked in at least two hours prior to the start of your event.

Implements for all early morning throws (8:00 – 10:00 a.m.) should be checked in the evening before the event.

Vaulting Poles

Rental of vaulting poles will be available.

Click here to see the list of available pole sizes; poles will be available on a first-come, first served basis at $40 for the day. Additional sizes may be available; please contact Noel Ruebel for special requests.
 
To reserve a pole, please email noelruebel@fcds.org and indicate your size choice and date/time needed.  In order to reserve a pole you’ll need to pay in advance with no refunds offered.  Poles not paid for within 7 days of being reserved will be reinstated to the available list.  Checks in the amount of $40 should be made payable and mailed to:  Noel Ruebel, 412 Paigebrook Dr., Winston Salem, NC 27106.
 
Poles will be available within 2 hours of your competition and must be signed out; you are responsible for the return of the pole to Implement Check-in.
 
If you find you are in need of a different size pole, you may exchange a pole for another (if available) during your competition.
 
Broken poles will not be the responsibility of the competitor.

Vaulting Poles Shipping

Spike Type and Lengths

Only ¼ inch “Pyramid Spikes” will be allowed on the competition surface at Kentner Stadium.  Prohibited spikes include “Christmas Tree Spike Pins” and “Needle Spike Pins.”

Packet Pick-up

Packet pick-up will be located inside the Miller Center, located at the south end of the track.

Packet Pick-up will be open as follows (subject to change based on final schedule):

  • Wednesday, July 16                 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, July 17                      6:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Friday, July 18                           6:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, July 19                      6:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, July 20                         6:30 a.m. – noon

When you pick up your packet, please indicate if you do not plan to participate in any of the events you entered.  On the outside of your packet there will be a sticker which will show your name, number, age group and events entered.  Please check it to make sure it is correct.  It will not be possible to correct any mistakes after that time.  Note each bib should have the same computer generated sticker so that there is no confusion when you check-in at the clerking area or the field event venue.

Protest and Appeals

Any protest must be in writing and be made within 30 minutes of the event results being announced or posted behind the main grandstand.  Each protest is a $100 fee.  Protests not made within that timeframe will be denied.  Once a protest has been decided and the result of the protest announced or posted, you have 30 minutes to file an appeal.  To file an appeal, you must submit the written appeal.  The protest fee is nonrefundable unless your protest/appeal is upheld.  Forms for both will be available at the Masters Committee Table located at the finish line.

Race Walk Course - 10k Road

The 10 km Race Walk will be held on a 1k loop northwest of the stadium on Wake Forest Road.  The course is certified (certification #NC-14013-DF).  This beautiful, tree-lined course takes you through the heart of campus.  Walkers will encounter two brick crosswalks (see images below) and one rubber speed-bump on the course but the course has been personally reviewed by the North Carolina Race Walk Chair for safety and competitive concerns.

Relay Information

Eligibility: Only athletes entered in the meet (who have been assigned a bib number) are eligible to compete on a relay team.
 
If an athlete is solely competing in a relay, they must submit a paper entry form.
 
Types of Relays:
Club Relays – a relay team comprised of all athletes who are affiliated with the same club (as determined by the USATF membership database) at the time of the close of the event entry deadline.
Non-Club Relays – a relay team not meeting the definition of a Club Relay (see above).
 
Entry Fee: $40/relay (to be paid on site at Packet Pick-up)
 
Relay Entry Deadline: Relay entry forms are to be submitted to Packet Pick-up located in the Miller Center before the completion of running competition, the day prior to the relay event. Entry forms will not be accepted the day of the relay event.
