  • Jesse Owens Male Athlete of the Year

    Ryan Crouser – World champion in the shot put, also won USATF indoor and outdoor titles and took silver at World Indoors. Had 28 throws of 22m or better, including two beyond 23m.

    Grant Fisher – USATF 5,000m champion. Finished 4th in the 10,000m and sixth in the 5,000m at the World Championships. Bettered American record in the indoor 5,000m and outdoor 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m.

    Grant Holloway – World champion and Diamond League winner in the 110m hurdles. Tied indoor world record in the 60m hurdles and won World Indoors gold after taking USATF Indoors title. Undefeated in 60mH.

    Fred Kerley – World and USATF champion in 100m, tops world list at 9.76. Also placed third in 200m at USATF Championships. Again ran sub-10 in the 100m, sub-20 in the 200m and sub-45 in the 400m in a single season.

    Noah Lyles – World, USATF and Diamond League champion in 200m with an undefeated season at the distance. Bettered American record with his 19.31 to win world gold. Had 11 wind-legal sub-20 second performances, equaling the highest number ever in a single season. Earned silver on 4x100m relay at World Championships.

    Michael Norman – World and USATF champion in 400m and undefeated at that distance. Had a best of 43.56 to win USATF title, the 10th fastest U.S. performance ever. Earned gold on 4x400m relay at World Championships. Ran three sub-20 second 200m races with a best of 19.76.

    Jackie Joyner-Kersee Female Athlete of the Year

    Brooke Andersen – Gold medalist in hammer at World Championships, also won USATF title. Had world's best throw in 2022 with a 79.02m/259-3. Won eight meets.

    Chase Ealey – Won shot put at World Championships, the first American woman to ever do so. USATF and Diamond League champion and undefeated outdoors in 11 meets. Had four of the top five throws in U.S. history, including a best of 20.51m/67-3.5. Tied American indoor record with a 20.21m/66-3.75 to earn silver at World Indoors.

    Sydney McLaughlin – World and USATF champion in 400m hurdles, setting world records at both meets. Ran 51.41 to win USATF title and followed with a 50.68 to win world gold by more than 1.5 seconds. Had four races faster than 52 seconds and was undefeated at all distances, including a 12.75 to win the 100mH at the Penn Relays. Anchored 4x400m relay to gold at World Championships with a 47.9 split.

    Athing Mu – World and USATF champion in 800m. Led world list with her 1:56.30 to win the world title. Undefeated in 400m, 600m and 800m and ran world-leading 1:22.74 to win Penn Relays 600m.

    Katie Nageotte – World champion in pole vault, also took silver at World Indoors. Set her season best of 4.85m/15-11 to win world title.

    Emily Sisson – Bettered American records in the half marathon and marathon. Won the USATF Half Marathon title in May at Indianapolis with a 67:11 to clip four seconds off the existing AR, and then finished as runner-up at the Chicago Marathon in 2:18:29, chopping 43 seconds from the pending AR. Also won the USATF 15km Championships in Jacksonville in 47:28and was second at the 20km Championships.

    Kara Winger – Silver medalist in javelin at World Championships, first American woman to ever medal in the event. Bettered American record with a world-leading 68.11m/223-5 to win Brussels Diamond League meet, and then won Diamond League final at Zurich. USATF champion, also won NACAC gold with a meet record.

    Josh Awotunde – earned bronze in the men's shot put at the World Championships with a lifetime best throw of 22.29m/73-1.75 that put him at No. 11 on the all-time U.S. performer list; fifth at the World Indoor Championships after a runner-up finish at USATF Indoors

    Trevor Bassitt – took bronze in the men's 400m hurdles at the World Championships with a lifetime best 47.39 that put him 10th on the all-time U.S. performer list; silver medalist in the 400m at World Indoor Championships

    Trey Cunningham – silver medalist in the men's 110m hurdles at the World Championships at 13.08; won NCAA 110mH title in 13.00 and NCAA indoor 60mH gold

    Tori Franklin – bronze medalist in women's triple jump at World Championships with a 14.72m/48-3.5 that was the No. 7 all-time U.S. performance; had the No. 2 all-time U.S. performance with a 14.86m/48-9 to place third at the Monaco Diamond League meet

    Anna Hall – bronze medalist in the women's heptathlon at the World Championships with a lifetime best 6,755 points to become the No. 3 all-time U.S. performer; USATF and NCAA heptathlon champion; NCAA indoor pentathlon champion; silver medalist in NCAA 400m hurdles, ran a lifetime best of 54.48 in the semis at that meet
