Following the 2008 season where he posted his personal best of 8.45m/263-11,
Furey qualified for the 2009 U.S. World Outdoor Championships team with his
third-place finish at the USA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. Furey closed
out his collegiate career by finishing third in the javelin at the 2005 NCAA
Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a school-record throw of
242-03 feet. Earlier in the season, he won the javelin at the NCAA Division I
East Regional Championships and won the Ivy League/Heptagonal Championships by
more than 20 feet to earn first team All-Ivy honors. Furey earned a 3.80 GPA at
Dartmouth with his major in Engineering....was named the 2005 U.S. Track & Field
and Cross Country Coaches Association Men's Scholar Athlete of the Year.
