Vice Chair Robert Thomas
Secretary Jeff Brower
Treasurer Carroll DeWeese
Absent - Jerry Bookin-Weiner, Mark Cleary, Rose Schlewitz
8:05 PM CST - Gary started the meeting. An agenda and draft NSG proposal had been emailed to the group previously.
Mary Trotto has done a great job handling the responsibilities of the Awards Committee, and Gary announced that she will fill this role for 1 more year. She will formally become the Awards Chair. Thanks Mary!
Gary also announced that both the Media & Marketing Chairs will remain on the board and each will have a distinct vote.
4x200 Relay - Gary will work with Marilyn Mitchell regarding the official wording to get this added to the events that must be offered at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships. We're not sure if this will be changed before the 2011 Indoor Championships.
USATF & NSG lawyers are ironing out the details for USATF to handle the track and field portion of the National Senior Games. About $5000 will be paid to USATF to take this over ($1000 for implement-use fee, $4000 for Games Committe oversight). This income will be tracked as a separate line item in the budget.
How does this affect the Senior state meets? The indication is that NSG wants USATF to handle these in the distant future.
Anti Doping Initiative
Many groups are involved in this issue. USATF Masters needs more information, as there are many concerns, so some education is needed regarding how this has been handled at the Open level, and what exceptions Masters will need. The major questions are:
Should testing be implemented, and if so, for what ages? USADA & the National office could be overwhelmed if all the current Masters athletes issue TUE forms.
How/if post-competition TUE's are handled is an additional issue. We'll also look at what other countries are doing.
2011 Indoor Meet
The meet will be in Albuquerque, but a public announcement will be made soon confirming this.
Annual Meeting Schedule Changes
The Annual Meeting Will be one day shorter. Gary believes we can get all our work done.
Annual Meeting Travel Expense
Carroll discussed what he knew regarding the ongoing evaluation of the entire USATF budget and how it affects Masters. He discussed some methods for utilizing the various Masters budgeted funds effectively.
Mary Trotto inquired about a schedule change for the 2010 Sacramento meet that impacted an athlete. Gary reminded everyone that meet schedules are subject to change.
Max asked about the NCCWMA meet for 2010. It may still happen.
Next conference call may be scheduled within a month.
