USATF Mourns Loss of Joe Gentry

Joe Gentry, a World Indoor Championships coach for Team USATF in 2003 and an Olympic coach for Thailand, passed away last week at the age of 75.

The retired US Army Lt. Colonel founded the Joe Gentry Track Troupe, now the Fast Traxx Troupe, in 1969, whose mission was to provide youth with a positive outlet and opportunity for personal growth through athletic achievement. More than 300 athletes have received athletic and academic scholarships with several having successful professional careers and making USATF national teams.

Gentry was also a speed, agility and quickness coach for the NFL Minnesota Vikings, and helped develop all-Pro Seattle Seahawk running back Shaun Alexander. He coached Thailand’s Trecia Roberts to the semifinals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2000 Olympics, and served as a coach for Vietnam at the 2004 Asian Games.

The Funeral will be held February 16th in Gentry’s hometown of St. Louis, MO.
