Olympic, World Championships medalists join Millrose fields

1/20/2011

NEW YORK – Olympic and World Championships medalists will provide heated head-to-head competition in the men’s 600 yards, women’s 400 meters and women’s 1,500 meters at the 104th Millrose Games.
The 104th Millrose Games will be contested Friday, January 28, 2011 at Madison Square Garden. The first event of USA Track & Field’s Visa Championship Series, the Millrose Games will be televised live from 8-10 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN2.

Jackson vs. Quow

Two Millrose champions will do battle in the Mel Sheppard Men’s 600 yards, where 2005 World Outdoor 400m hurdle medalist and 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Bershawn Jackson will take on 2006 World Junior 400m champion and 2009 World Outdoor bronze medalist Renny Quow of Trinidad. Jackson is a three-time Millrose champion in the event, with titles won in 2007, ’08 and 2010, while Quow won the race in 2009.

The women’s 400 meters features a competitive trio of Olympic 4x400m gold medalists. Dee Dee Trotter and Moushaumi Robinson took home gold from the 2004 Atlanta Olympics, while Natasha Hastings,  prep star from A. Philip Randolph High School in Harlem and former NCAA champion, was part of the winning U.S. 4x400 team at the 2008 Games in Beijing. All three will toe the line at the Garden.

The women’s 1,500m will feature an intriguing match-up between a three-time Millrose bride and a three-time bridesmaid. Canadian record holder and 2004 World Indoor silver medalist Carmen Douma-Hussar won three consecutive Millrose titles, from 2004-2006. Her top competition will likely come from 2006 5th Avenue Mile Champion Sara Hall of the United States, who three times has finished as the Millrose runner-up, including 2010.
