McGee’s mile win earns her USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Cory McGee (Brighton, Massachusetts) won the Sir Walter Miler with an outdoor season best to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.

McGee, the bronze medalist in the mile at the USATF Indoors in February, outsprinted Lauren Johnson down the stretch in Raleigh, North Carolina, to cross the line in 4:27.87, a quarter-second ahead of Johnson. She set her outdoor PR of 4:27.78 finishing third in the Sir Walter race in 2018, and this year had to wait out a one-hour weather delay before racing in steady rain. Notre Dame’s NCAA bronze medalist Jessica Harris set a personal best in third with a 4:30.03.
