Korir’s Falmouth win earns him USATF Athlete of the Week honors


INDIANAPOLIS -- Leonard Korir (Colorado Springs, Colorado) won the men’s title at the New Balance Falmouth Road Race to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.

Korir, a 2016 Olympian and 2017 World Championships team member in the 10,000 meters, became the first American man since Mark Curp in 1988 to win the prestigious seven-mile race in Massachusetts. He won by 18 seconds in 32:11, improving on a pair of second-place finishes in 2016 and 2017 and beating ‘17 champion Stephen Sambu of Kenya, who won four straight Falmouth titles from 2014-17.

Ajee’ Wilson — Wilson was the lone U.S. winner at the Birmingham Diamond League meet in England, taking the 800 in 2:00.76.

David Angell — Angell defended his USATF Masters 5K road championship in Atlanta with a 15:41.

Marisa Sutera Strange — Strange, 56, ran 18:38 at the USATF Masters women’s 5K road championships, age-grading at 94.86%, the highest of all competitors.
