Grace’s win at The Match earns her USATF Athlete of the Week honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Kate Grace (Portland, Oregon) won the women’s 1,500m at The Match - USA vs. Europe in Minsk to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.


Grace, eighth in the 2016 Olympic final at 800m, streaked past the field in the final lap at Dinamo Stadium, covering the last 400m in less than 62 seconds to cross the line in a lifetime-best 4:02.49 and win by more than two seconds over Team USATF teammate Shannon Osika. The U.S. took three of the top four places, with Elise Cranny notching a PR 4:05.83 in fourth. Grace started in the middle of the pack, covering the first circuit in 66.62 in fourth place, then eased into third as she passed 800m in 2:12.15. Running off Osika’s shoulder at the bell, she was just .04 behind at 3:00.66 and she made her decisive move with less than 300m to go.

Darrell Hill — Hill won the shot put at The Match in Minsk with a season’s best of 22.35m/73-4.

Mike Rodgers — Rodgers won the men’s 100m and helped Team USATF to gold in the 4x100m relay at The Match.

Maggie Ewen — Ewen launched the women’s shot put a personal-best 19.47m/63-10.5 to win at The Match.

Kara Winger — Winger had the ninth-best throw in American history, winning the women’s javelin at The Match with a 64.63m/212-0.

Woody Kincaid — Kincaid moved to No. 5 on the all-time U.S. 5,000m list with his 12:58.10 at the Portland 5000.
