Four-Time Olympians Thurmond and Taylor elected Captains
7/25/2012
BIRMINGHAM - Four-time Olympians Aretha Thurmond and Angelo Taylor were selected by their peers to lead Team USA’s Olympic squad as the women and men’s team captains.
Thurmond (Auburn, Ala.) and Taylor (Atlanta, Ga.) have a combined ten USA Championship titles, eight Olympic appearances, four Olympic medals, and 32 years of experience competing at an international level.
“I’m definitely excited on being nominated and chosen to be the team captain,” Taylor said. “I want to do my best to go out there and share my experience and give advice to some of the younger athletes out here for the first time. I’m here to help anyone who needs my help, and I am fully honored to be the captain.”
“It is an honor to represent such a great and strong team,” Thurmond said. “This is my third team with Angelo, so we know each other well since we were just out of college. I’m happy to be serving the team with him.”
One of their first tasks as Olympic team captains will be to meet with captains of all U.S. Olympic sports to select the flag bearer for the U.S. delegation.
