Age-15 world best for Davis wins her USATF Athlete of the Week


Kayla Davis (Charlotte, North Carolina) set an age-15 world best in the 400m to earn USATF Athlete of the Week.

Davis, who just finished her freshman year in high school, won the New Balance Nationals Outdoor title in Greensboro, North Carolina, with a 51.17, the fastest time ever run by a 15-year-old. She also moved to No. 7 on the all-time high school one-lap list, and is now sixth on the world U18 all-time list. Davis was third in the 300m at the USATF Indoor Championships in February and also finished third in the New Balance Nationals Indoor 400m in March. She is scheduled to compete in the 400m at the USATF U20 Championships in Miramar, Florida, this weekend.

Christian Coleman — Coleman ran a world-leading 9.85 in chilly conditions to win the 100m at the Oslo Diamond League meet.

Emma Coburn — Reigning world champion Coburn ran 9:08.42 in the 3,000m steeplechase at Oslo, the tenth-fastest performance in U.S. history.

Kirubel Erassa — Erassa achieved a World Championships qualifying time in the 10,000m at Nijmegen, the Netherlands, clocking 27:32.89 to place third and take over the U.S. lead for 2019.

Sydney McLaughlin — McLaughlin won in her Diamond League 400m hurdles debut at Oslo, beating Olympic champion Dalilah Muhammad in 54.16.
