Career Highlights: 2-time world team member; 4th in 4x100m at 1999 World Champs; 1998 World Cup champion (4x100m); 3rd in 100m at 1994 U.S. Outdoor nationals; 2nd in 200m at 1997 U.S. Outdoor nationals; 1994 SEC 100m, 200m champion; 2nd in 100m at 1994 NCAA Outdoors.

Taplin started running as a ninth grader when a friend said, "Hey, let's go out for track"the results came fast, as she won 19 state titles, indoors and out, in Washingtonshe remains the only Washington prep to have won two or more titles a year for four consecutive yearssays she didn't come from a high-powered track program: "It was just raw talent. I learned most about track from my summer club coaches"her sister was a marathon runnera 16-time All-America for LSUearned her degree in general studies, with an emphasis on business administration and speech communicationfor fun, she says, "I like to watch TV. That's all. Cartoons"says the step up after college was a challenge: "I had to train harder, and change all my workout habits. It's much more serious, much more technical now".
